Qi Taiguo prepares to leave, arranging for his mother-in-law to care for their son to ease the burden on Cheng Su. He discusses his son's unusual maturity with Cheng Su and asserts his strong desire for his wife to be respected and protected in his absence, warning his family against causing her any trouble.

Cheng Su accompanied Qi Taiguo all the way to the bus station, bought the ticket, and with some time left before departure, they sat in the waiting room.

"You really didn’t need to see me off, it’s so cold today," Qi Taiguo remarked, holding her hand with a hint of reproach.

Cheng Su feigned anger and said, "I see you off and you complain, do you just not want to look at me anymore?"

Qi Taiguo hurriedly replied, "Not at all! I wish I could shrink you and keep you in my pocket to take you with me."

Cheng Su rolled her eyes at him and said, "What you just said probably has everyone at home in an uproar right now. Something about not bullying your wife and making your mom jealous? If Xiao Qi says that to me in the future, I’ll beat him."

Qi Taiguo laughed, hugged her shoulder, and said, "Let them be jealous, as long as you’re happy. I really mean it. I don’t want you to feel constrained while I’m around. If you feel frustrated and have no outlet to express it, how unfair would that be? I’d rather be the ’bad guy’ now."

Warmth filled Cheng Su’s heart, she rested her head on his shoulder, not saying a word.

"Susu, even if I’m not around, if you feel down, make sure to talk to someone—like Xiao Ya, you’re close friends, aren’t you? Don’t keep everything bottled up inside," Qi Taiguo reminded her. "Alternatively, you can talk to Xiao Qi; he’s a ’grown-up’ now."

"I know, why are you treating me like a child?" Cheng Su retorted.

Qi Taiguo looked at her, touched her face gently, and said, "You know, what I’m most worried about is you!"

Cheng Su felt a sting in her nose, "You’re always making me want to cry."

"Don’t cry, you’re strong. I know you’ll manage just fine even if I’m not around, right?"

His words seemed like a farewell in advance, causing Cheng Su to panic, "No, I’m not. I can manage for a year or so, long enough to assure you, but beyond that, I can’t; I need you by my side. So you must come back on time, don’t break your promise."

With anxious eyes, she held out her little finger, "Let’s make a pinky promise, you have to return on time."

Qi Taiguo extended his finger and hooked it with hers.

"If you break your promise, you’re done for! I’ll remarry, and I’ll take our son with me," Cheng Su ’threatened’.

"Don’t worry, I won’t give you that opportunity," Qi Taiguo said, ruffling her hair.

Cheng Su buried her head in his chest again, feeling the heartbeat, wishing time would slow down, slower still.

"It’s so strange, it’s only been a few short years, how did I grow so attached to you?" Cheng Su said, "I feel like I’ve loved you for so long, so long."

"Of course, we are meant to be," Qi Taiguo said. "And you saying you’ve loved me for so long, it’s not surprising. Who knows, maybe you are the you from a previous life. If that’s the case, your love for me could be explained."

Cheng Su lifted her head and looked at him, is it true?

There’s a possibility she is that noblewoman, but why jump from a building, just to come back? Why come back?

"The bus to Zhu City is boarding!"

Upon hearing this, Cheng Su’s thoughts scattered, and she gripped his hand tightly.

"I have to go!" Qi Taiguo said.

"You must call me before you set out," Cheng Su said, stifling her reluctance.

Qi Taiguo nodded.

Cheng Su hugged him, then kissed him—a reluctance like never before, making Qi Taiguo’s heart tighten.

The long kiss ended with the attendant’s urging; Qi Taiguo picked up his backpack and boarded the bus.

"I’ll wait for you to come back!" Cheng Su’s gaze locked onto him, her eyes gradually red, yet she still waved her hand.

This parting, regardless of when we meet again, I await your return.
