Several families gathered for the Mid-Autumn Festival at Cheng Su's restaurant. Despite some passive-aggressive comments from an aunt towards Mother Qi about her grandson, the gathering was mostly joyful. The baby, Xiao Qi, charmed everyone, particularly Old Master Cheng. Cheng Yaozu and Ying Xiaoya shared a sweet moment, while Deng Weiqiu felt a pang of envy at the surrounding happiness and successful marriages.

Following the conclusion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Old Master Cheng and his companions departed. Some journeyed back to Guangcheng, while others returned to their native towns.

Father Qi expressed considerable surprise at his wife’s abrupt decision to travel to their hometown, as he had fully anticipated the elderly matriarch would insist on remaining. Despite his own reluctance to part with his cherished grandson, the old lady appeared unfazed.

He only learned the reason for her haste when they were en route, discovering she was eager to perform a ritual to ward off evil spirits upon her return.

Upon hearing the old lady’s explanation, Father Qi was left utterly speechless.

Cheng Su also felt a measure of surprise at her mother-in-law’s unexpected compliance; it marked the first instance she had witnessed Mother Qi being so agreeable. Cheng Su had fully expected her to create a fuss and demand an extended stay.

"What purpose would staying serve? You can observe but not interact, merely a visual delight with no tangible benefit. Your mother-in-law is returning for a ceremony; she consulted me about it previously," Mother Cheng stated, diligently folding her grandson’s diapers.

"Consulted you about what?" Cheng Su inquired, her curiosity piqued.

"Even if I were to explain, you likely wouldn't grasp the intricacies. It pertains to certain traditional taboos. I surmise your mother-in-law might be willing to expend considerable resources for the opportunity to hold Xiao Qi," Mother Cheng remarked.

Cheng Su found herself momentarily at a loss for words. She lowered her gaze and playfully poked Qi Xiaoqi’s plump little cheek, remarking, "Just look at you, you’ve actually scared your grandma away!"

Qi Xiaoqi grasped her finger and let out a delighted giggle.

"Laugh away, laugh away. I can’t help but wonder if you’re doing this intentionally," Cheng Su mused, scrutinizing her son’s expression and the glint in his eyes.

It wasn’t that she was prone to overthinking, but having experienced a return from the brink of death, witnessing her son’s peculiar behavior prompted her to question if there was a deliberate element to it. After all, what typical infant exhibited such conduct? If this were a reincarnated soul, such actions would hardly be surprising.

However, she could glean no further insight; her son simply continued to giggle foolishly, his large eyes darting around, radiating an inexplicable charm. Cheng Su couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh.

With the departure of her guests, the house was suddenly enveloped in a profound quietude. Surveying the minor disarray, Cheng Su undertook a brief tidying, followed by attending to the laundry and diapers.

In the evening, Qi Taiguo returned home, and Cheng Su was engaged in playing with their child. After a period of shared amusement, Qi Taiguo announced, "We convened a meeting today, and next month, houses will be allocated via a lottery system."

"Truly?" Cheng Su’s eyes widened with interest, "Aren't the houses still under construction?"

"Even if they aren't fully completed, allocation can proceed. By November, completion is anticipated," Qi Taiguo chuckled. "Once allocated, you can move in without delay upon their readiness."

"Oh? On that note, how are the houses being finished? Will they be furnished, or simply a bare structure?" Cheng Su inquired.

"The external walls will be adorned with mosaic tiles, the internal walls will be painted, and the floors, unlike the current cement finish in our home, will also be laid with mosaic tiles," Qi Taiguo elaborated.

Cheng Su couldn’t suppress a laugh upon hearing this, "If that’s the case, then interior decoration will hardly be necessary."

Initially, she had envisioned a bare structure, but the prospect of basic finishing, including the flooring and painted walls, was certainly a pleasant surprise. Reflecting further, she realized that given the involvement of the elder master, the residences would logically not be left as mere shells.

Based on Qi Taiguo’s description, the standards align with the prevailing decorative styles of the era, appearing quite satisfactory.

"At the very least, each unit will comprise two rooms and a living area, complete with a kitchen and a bathroom, eliminating the need for shared facilities!" Qi Taiguo declared, resting his hands behind his head.

Cheng Su agreed, "Mm, that’s excellent. It will save my mother the trouble of repeatedly checking the kitchen when she prepares soup."

"Mm?"

Cheng Su then proceeded to playfully mimic Sister-in-law Song’s mannerisms, reciting, "My mother always says she enjoys taking advantage of minor conveniences; her skin is thicker than three inches."

Qi Taiguo’s brow furrowed slightly, and he let out a sigh, "The move to a new house later on will certainly be an improvement."

Cheng Su nodded in agreement and began to discuss her mother-in-law.
