Holding a cup of tea, Cheng Su observed Ning Ge's contemplative mood with a leisurely gaze. She lowered her head, a silent sigh of relief escaping her. Although Ning Ge's emotions were never explicitly stated, her inner turmoil and feelings of embarrassment were evident. Witnessing his apparent entanglement in matters of the heart brought her genuine peace. Finally, he had let go and found someone he admired. That was wonderful.
"Hey!" Ning Ge waved his hand in front of her a few times, playfully chiding, "Your smile is rather eerie. What are you lost in thought about?"
"Oh, nothing much. Just that everything is perfect now. You can finally set your mind at ease, and perhaps we'll be celebrating a wedding soon!" Cheng Su replied.
Ning Ge was momentarily taken aback. After meeting her gaze for a beat, he stated, "It's still too early to say. I have something else to tell you!"
Looking at him again, Cheng Su noted his newfound indifference. Had he truly 'moved on'? "Hmm? What is it?" she inquired, swirling the tea in her cup.
"Nothing major. I've decided to tender my resignation from my current intelligence position to focus entirely on business ventures!" Ning Ge announced.
Cheng Su listened, her eyebrows raised in surprise. "You intend to go into business?"
"Why, is there a problem with that?"
Cheng Su shook her head. "It's not a problem, per se. It's just that your family has deep roots in the military and government sectors. You never mentioned this before; you even hinted at possibly pursuing a political career."
Ning Ge was quite intelligent. Cheng Su had always assumed he would enter politics, wielding significant power and surely navigating social circles with finesse. His declaration of wanting to enter business was unexpected and, she felt, a bit of a regret.
"People change. I've considered it from various angles. The family's influence is already quite prominent; there's no need for me to amplify it further. Entering the business world isn't a bad path!" Ning Ge remarked, settling back onto the sofa and crossing his legs.
Cheng Su, not one to be easily fooled, grasped the implicit meaning behind his casual words. The wealthier one becomes, the more cautiously one must tread. The Ning family was indeed affluent, and with their military and government connections, maintaining a lower profile was wise.
"Have you made up your mind?" she asked, looking directly at him. "Has the family given their approval?"
Ning Ge nodded. "Cheng Yaozu and the others are keen on venturing into real estate. I've decided to collaborate with the Cheng family and develop in that direction!"
Cheng Su's lips parted slightly, and she offered a thumbs-up. "Impressive. That sounds promising."
She lamented her own lack of substantial funds, wishing she could invest some shares in such a venture.
"Interested in investing?" Ning Ge, noticing her wistful expression, couldn't help but chuckle and ask.
Cheng Su replied, "I'm completely broke and still burdened by debts. I'll have to pass on investing for now. I'll focus on my current businesses, and perhaps consider it when I have more capital later."
This was a significant opportunity, and she didn't want to miss out. However, she understood the need to proceed incrementally; how else would she secure a slice of this pie? Real estate was poised for a boom, but that future was still some time away. A gradual approach was best. If she could accumulate significant wealth over the next decade, she would consider investing then. Her ultimate dream, however, was to own a five-star hotel – that was her true aspiration.
Naturally, achieving this goal required capital and land. Therefore, if she had the means, acquiring land would be her first priority, whether for trading or for its potential appreciation, both were sound choices.
Ning Ge, with his own plans clearly laid out, didn't press the issue. He was, after all, prepared for various outcomes.
"Given this collaboration, I'll need to spend more time in the Capital. The Joy Soon Loy Company here will require a competent manager!" Ning Ge stated.
He needed to establish himself in the Capital. Cheng Su, having recently had a child, would undoubtedly need to appoint a reliable individual to oversee operations; thus, preparations were necessary.
"Alright, I’ll keep an eye out for suitable candidates!" Cheng Su responded with a smile, showing no sign of reluctance at his statement. She understood that such a development was inevitable and that things were only going to improve from here.
