Cheng Su's mother suspects the baby cried so much because of the mother-in-law's 'unclean' presence. Cheng Su dismisses these superstitious fears, focusing instead on her son and her love for him. She reflects on the satisfaction of motherhood, finding contentment in her child regardless of her strained relationship with her mother-in-law.

After tending to her son, Cheng Su handed him over to the family and headed to the restaurant to resume her duties. Qi Fengping, offering her assistance, joined Cheng Su, and the two sisters-in-law departed together.

"Elder sister, look!"

While on the bus, Qi Fengping retrieved an envelope from her bag and presented it to Cheng Su.

Upon observing the inscription on the envelope, Cheng Su exclaimed in surprise, "You received an acceptance letter?"

She carefully extracted the contents, revealing an acceptance letter. Though the university was not a prestigious institution, in this era, any university acceptance was a significant achievement.

"When did you get it? Why didn't you call to share the wonderful news?" Cheng Su reverently placed the letter back, returning it to her sister-in-law.

Qi Fengping, handling it as if it were a cherished treasure, placed it back into her bag and replied with a smile, "I only received it a few days ago and intended to surprise you, so I kept silent about it."

"Even a phone call would have been a pleasant surprise," Cheng Su said with a smile. "Little Ping, congratulations! You are on the verge of entering a new world! Your hard work has borne fruit, how does it feel?"

Qi Fengping displayed a hint of pride as she stated, "Previously, I never even considered this possibility. This time, I repeated the year without much hope, merely taking the exam to test my luck. I poured all my effort into it and unexpectedly, I was accepted, although not into a renowned university."

"Even if it is not prestigious, it is located in Hucheng, a prosperous city. Once you graduate, establishing yourself there would be an excellent decision!" Cheng Su continued, "You also mentioned before that given your aptitude, it might be quite difficult, but now, the doors to higher education have opened for you!"

"Yes! It truly is good fortune!" Qi Fengping’s eyes sparkled.

Cheng Su placed her hand on Qi Fengping’s shoulder, saying, "Little sister, this is not mere luck, but the well-deserved reward for your diligent efforts. You toiled diligently for a year; while others were lost in dreams, you were immersed in your studies, memorizing vocabulary, practicing pronunciation, and completing exercises. Is that luck? No, it is the direct result of your hard work!"

Qi Fengping was taken aback: "Sister-in-law..."

How did she possess such knowledge?

"Silly girl, you reside at home, so what could I possibly not know? I have witnessed it all!" Cheng Su chuckled, recalling instances of waking up late at night to find Qi Fengping’s room still illuminated and hearing her diligently practicing her English.

A twinge of emotion struck Qi Fengping, her throat felt tight, and tears welled in her eyes: "Sister-in-law, I..." The embarrassing incident she had caused earlier was known to everyone, and she had endured disdainful glances, her heart filled with bitterness, but who truly understood? To put all that behind her, she had gritted her teeth and pushed forward.

"Enough, you are a grown young woman now, still sniffling like a baby! Do you think you are your nephew, crying whenever the mood strikes?" Cheng Su teased her gently.

Qi Fengping erupted into laughter and shot her a playful glare, "You’re so annoying!"

Cheng Su burst into hearty laughter.

Qi Fengping wiped the lingering tears from her eyes, cast a sideways glance at Cheng Su, pursed her lips, and said, "Sister-in-law, thank you." She hesitated for a moment before adding, "And, I apologize!"

"Oh, and why are you apologizing to me?" Cheng Su inquired, feigning surprise.

Qi Fengping’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she confessed, "In the past, I held negative views of you and frequently disagreed with you, displaying an unpleasant demeanor. It was due to my immaturity."

Cheng Su casually waved a hand, dismissing it and saying, "Well, as long as you recognize it, I accept your apology. Be more respectful towards me in the future."

"Yes!" Qi Fengping declared, her voice firm. "I will respect you as I would my own mother."

Because you truly deserve it.

Cheng Su waved her hand again and continued, "Alright, if you lead a good life, your brother and I will worry less, which is beneficial for us. Little sister, remember, this life is yours to live; do not be overly concerned with others' perceptions. Consider myself and you; if I had dwelled on every slight, wouldn't I have been depressed to the point of death? Now that you have made a triumphant return, simply forge your own path and let others be envious!"

Qi Fengping chuckled, nodding in complete agreement.
