The infant Qi Xiaoqi charmed his god-grandfather, Old Master Cheng, from their first meeting. To welcome the baby, Old Master Cheng presented him with a valuable gift: a title deed for a shop in the Guangcheng Center, intended as future pocket money. The generous gesture brought joy to the Qi and Cheng families. Old Master Cheng also playfully urged Cheng Yaozu and Ying Xiaoya to have a granddaughter, promising her land.

Both Father Qi and Old Master Cheng had journeyed a considerable distance to attend the wedding banquet. The fact that Old Master Cheng, in his advanced years, undertook such a long train ride brought a mix of happiness and concern to Cheng Su. After spending some time with Xiao Qi, she personally guided them to the guesthouse for their rest, instructing them to join the festivities when the banquet commenced.

Old Master Cheng did not decline her offer, acknowledging that his energy levels were indeed not what they used to be due to his age.

Regarding Father Qi, Cheng Su had inquired, but they expressed that their long hours of physical labor in the fields accustomed them to exertion and they didn't feel tired. On such a joyous occasion, they preferred the company of others, engaging in conversation.

Consequently, Cheng Su only escorted Old Master Cheng and his party to the guesthouse.

As they were departing, Sister-in-law Song made an appearance, peering around. Cheng Su's brow furrowed, but she remained silent. Sister-in-law Song, seemingly unfazed, proceeded to appraise the distinguished Cheng Yaozu and his companions.

Cheng Su personally saw Old Master Cheng to his room. Once she departed, the family members began to converse.

"Previously, I was aware she had a well-to-do godparent, but I never imagined they would be so incredibly generous. My goodness, an entire shop!" Mother Cheng exclaimed, her hands clasped together as if she had just won the lottery; the entire situation felt surreal.

Mother Qi said, "It's all thanks to our Xiao Qi being so remarkably bright and clever!"

Mother Cheng, not about to be outdone, countered, "It's also the mother's good fortune to have such a wonderful godparent! Without Cheng Su's connection, no matter how clever she might be, could she possibly receive such a magnificent gift?"

Mother Qi understood that on such an auspicious day, it was hardly worth engaging in an argument with Mother Cheng, especially with her sister-in-law present. She responded with a smile, "You speak the truth, the daughter-in-law is indeed blessed!"

Indeed, Mother Cheng puffed out her chest with pride.

Mother Qi, choosing to ignore her, directed her attention to the elderly gentleman holding Qi Xiaoqi, eagerly stating, "Let me hold him!"

"He'll only cry if you hold him!" Father Qi interjected impatiently.

"That's because earlier, we hadn't properly acquainted ourselves, and our auras hadn't yet aligned!" Mother Qi insisted.

The mention of unaligned auras caused Qi Fengping and Qi Jianguo to stifle their laughter; they found it amusing that she would even speak of auras.

Mother Qi, though dismissive of such notions, carefully lifted Qi Xiaoqi as if he were exceptionally delicate. This time, to her delight, Qi Xiaoqi did not cry; instead, he gazed at her with curiosity. Beaming, Mother Qi declared, "See, he's not crying..."

Wah!

A piercing wail suddenly shattered the air, echoing through the room.

A minute later, witnessing their grandson wailing uncontrollably for a full minute, his face flushed crimson, Mother Qi finally conceded defeat and handed the child back to Mother Cheng.

Mother Cheng, observing Qi Xiaoqi's pitiful sobs, felt a pang of sympathy. She couldn't fathom why the groom's mother seemed to be the trigger for the child's tears.

Mother Qi, on the verge of tears herself, felt utterly wronged, a sentiment she had never experienced before!

"You little scamp, you were born just to torment me!" The corners of Mother Qi's eyes teared up.

Sister-in-law Song, accompanied by her two sons, arrived at Cheng Su's residence. Having already partaken in some refreshments, she overheard the tail end of their conversation and remarked, "They say children possess pure eyes; perhaps they perceive things that adults cannot. Could it be that Xiao Qi saw something frightening?"

The moment these words were spoken, the expressions of everyone in the room shifted dramatically, their gazes collectively turning towards Mother Qi.

All those present hailed from rural backgrounds and held a degree of superstition. Upon hearing Sister-in-law Song's insinuation, they immediately understood. The implication was that Mother Qi harbored something impure, hence the child's distress!

A shiver traced its way down Mother Qi's spine, her skin prickling with goosebumps as her face turned ashen. "Nonsense!" she vehemently protested.

Despite her denial, a profound sense of unease settled upon her, her mind racing back to the aftermath of the car accident, the spectral appearance of the old lady, and the peculiar events at the hospital.

Could it be that the lingering presence of that individual had been haunting her all this time?
