Ning Gang's assertion and self-assurance are not merely for display. Should anyone contemplate challenging the Ning Family, they would be wise to first evaluate their capabilities and their capacity to withstand the repercussions.
The Ning brothers occupy significant positions within both the civil and military sectors. Beyond their personal affiliations, their influence extends through an intricate and far-reaching network. Any disruption could potentially destabilize everything.
This solid foundation is precisely why Ning Gang feels emboldened to speak so directly.
"It is precisely because of this that we must maintain a low profile. The higher we ascend, the more vigilant we need to be," Ning Ge remarked with a smile. "I believe the current situation is optimal; conducting business remains convenient for me."
"Do you still wish to remain an undercover agent? If you are genuinely committed to that path, you could consider joining the National Security department," Ning Gang suggested.
Ning Ge, however, shook his head. "No, I've made the decision to resign and dedicate my full attention to business."
Ning Gang and the others were taken aback. Even the usually reserved Old Master Ning directed his gaze toward his youngest son.
Noticing their astonished expressions, Ning Ge let out a soft chuckle. "When I first entered this field, it was driven by youthful impulsiveness and enthusiasm. Now, after several years, I find it rather devoid of meaning. I haven't even been actively participating in certain missions."
"Is this decision influenced by my standing?" Ning Gang inquired, a frown creasing his brow.
Ning Ge offered a shrug. "I cannot be certain, perhaps it’s to prevent any perception of conflict of interest. Especially now that you, elder brother, hold a prominent position, there is even less reason for me to remain. After careful consideration, focusing on business appears to be the most suitable course of action."
"Are you still involved with that small company alongside Xiao Cheng?" Old Master Ning inquired.
"That is merely a side venture. I believe the sectors of information development and real estate hold significant promise. The Cheng family has already made inroads into real estate, and I wish to be a part of that expansion," Ning Ge responded.
It was at this juncture that Cheng Yaozu extended an invitation to join their endeavors, whether prompted by the Ning family's connections or other considerations; it was undeniably a thoughtful gesture.
"With Eldest Brother, Second Brother, and Third Sister all serving in the army, my chosen path in business might indeed possess considerable potential!" Ning Ge added, observing the silent group. "Historically, the spheres of governance and commerce have often been intertwined. If I achieve success, I might even exert influence on the economy; the ultimate benefactor could shift!"
A subtle tremor ran through Old Master Ning's body, and he sat up a little straighter.
There was a degree of truth in his youngest son's words. The current era emphasized economic development. While it is said that 'military might fosters national strength,' prosperity is ultimately fueled by financial resources. As a nation's economy flourishes, what heights cannot be reached? And to become a significant figure whose market actions create ripples—that is not an unfavorable prospect.
Ning Gang and the others, not lacking in foresight, considered these implications and asked, "Have you fully contemplated this? Are you certain of your decision?"
Ning Ge nodded, a smile gracing his lips. "You shall witness your little brother's filial devotion in the future; there will be ample opportunities to offer tokens of respect!"
They found his statement amusing. Ning Gang playfully rolled his eyes. "If you truly offer respects of that magnitude, I fear it might attract the attention of the inspectors!"
Ning Ge shrugged with practiced indifference, offered a slight bow, and said, "I can only hope for your continued care and support, dear brothers!"
"Enough, cease this idle chatter," Ning Gang interjected with a touch of impatience, turning his attention to their father. "Dad, what are your thoughts on the matter?"
Old Master Ning stroked his beard thoughtfully. "I am old, and I shall not interfere. You brothers may deliberate and decide amongst yourselves!" He paused before adding, "My only wish is for a little child to keep me company and bring me amusement, be it a grandchild or a great-grandchild."
Upon hearing this, Ning Li immediately turned to Ning Ge. "Did you hear that? You are already thirty; how much longer do you intend to wait? That Miss Song your sister mentioned seems quite suitable. The Song family is a fitting match for ours."
Sensing the conversation veering towards his personal life, Ning Ge responded, "Brother, I am aware of my responsibilities." He quickly added, "It's nothing significant; I must depart now. I have a meeting with Zhou Jun to discuss business matters!"
Noticing his haste, the Ning Gang group simply gestured for him to leave. Ning Ge promptly made his exit.
