Qi Taiguo returned from the army and discussed the full moon banquet plans with Cheng Su. They calculated guests from Qing City comrades, local friends like the Ying family, Guangcheng contacts, and hometown relatives, grappling with distances and Mother Qi's mobility challenges. They settled on a modest event with a few tables, planning to consult Qi Taiguo's father and possibly expand celebrations at the hundred-day mark. Qi Taiguo called home after playful moments with their son, who turned away from his kiss.

Mother Qi yearned intensely for her grandson. When Qi Taiguo phoned to inquire about the baby's full month celebration plans, she swiftly chose to hold it in Qing City. Regarding the relatives back home, merely notify them; if they wish to attend, fine, otherwise wait for New Year's when they'll return with the grandson to welcome the new family addition. At that point, another feast will occur, and house-to-house visits will introduce him.

She completely dismissed Qi Taiguo's proposal to delay until the hundredth day, deeming it overly bothersome and expensive.

In truth, hassle and cost meant nothing to her. Mother Qi feared neither trouble nor spending, particularly when it benefited her grandson. Her burning eagerness to behold him drove this decision.

Postponing a glimpse of her grandson to the hundredth day? That torment exceeded even death!

Deep inside, the full month event allowed her to visit the grandson, with Cheng Su finishing confinement by then. She could remain a few days carefree.

As for Father Qi’s concern over her leg?

"For my grandson’s full month, can't you lift me into the car? If not, I'll hobble to Qing City on crutches myself—who dares block me!" Mother Qi grew agitated.

Nothing could suppress her craving to see her grandson.

Daughter-in-law's in confinement, so no need to stir trouble. Post-confinement full month banquet—what's the fuss?

Thus, come hell or high water, she'd reach Qing City, crawling if necessary, solely to gaze upon her treasured grandson.

Father Qi pierced her intentions instantly and declared shamelessly, "You just crave seeing the grandson, admit it!"

Mother Qi flushed with shame yet didn't deny it, retorting, "And if I do? Can't I? You've all laid eyes on him, but not me."

With those words, bitterness welled up; her eyes brimmed with tears as she continued, "At my age, I finally got a grandson, but fate struck then, barring me. Even post-birth, I can't witness him myself. No one foresaw my mishap. What if tomorrow I drop dead? I'd die without seeing him! Later, his filial piety—how would I recognize him among ancestors?"

Father Qi's mouth twitched hearing this; this woman inflated a trivial matter to epic proportions, invoking ancestral rites.

The heartrending image of Mother Qi, eyes red and dabbing tears, melted his resolve, prompting, "Fine, fine, no one's barring you. If you must go, then go."

Only then did Mother Qi grin, declaring, "The grandson's mine; I want to see him—who can prevent it?"

"Don't get cocky!" Father Qi warned, "Go by all means, but remember: attend the full month banquet and return straight after."

Mother Qi froze.

"Think I don't know you? Once you spot the grandson, you'll latch on and refuse to budge, causing drama." Father Qi eyed her.

Mother Qi's cheeks burned crimson; she pressed her lips, guilty of that exact scheme.

"You meddlesome old coot, always thwarting me!" Mother Qi snapped furiously.

"I'm warning you early." Father Qi explained, "I get you yearn to mind the grandson, but heal your legs first. If not fully recovered, drop it—avoid sparking mayhem. Later, once mended and daughter-in-law resumes work, they'll rely on you then. Unhealed, don't cling stubbornly. Vow this, we'll escort you; refuse, and nobody goes!"

Mother Qi fumed near explosion; finally, she grumbled, "I promise—happy now?"

At last Father Qi beamed; indeed, a soft spot simplifies control.
