Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife Chapter 1508 - 1509: Grandpa and Maternal Grandfather Arrive
Previously on Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife...
Cheng Su's family welcomed a newborn, and with red eggs already distributed back in their hometown, they couldn't overlook it here. After chatting with her daughter, Mother Cheng bought a basket of eggs, dyed them red, gave them to nearby families, and Qi Taiguo took the leftovers to his unit to spread the happiness.
Just one day after getting back, Father Cheng and Father Qi arrived bearing chickens, creating quite the lively scene. Mother Qi's leg issues kept her away, so Father Qi and Qi Jianguo showed up instead, joined by Cheng Zhi from the wife's side.
Two big cages held twenty-five chickens in total, all clucking noisily. Luckily, folks these days weren't too fussy, or the vehicles might not have allowed them aboard.
Still, Cheng Su found it a bit much to handle. Postpartum in the summer heat, she required rich tonics. Mother Cheng prepared hearty carp soup and oily layered chicken broth, which left her queasy after downing them.
With her in-laws and natal family delivering all these chickens now, how would she ever get through them?
"Ten or twenty would have done just fine. Dad, you've brought too many—space for keeping them is limited, and I can't eat them all alone!" Cheng Su remarked.
"One chicken daily is a must, plenty there. Eat up, times are good now, family can handle the cost." Father Qi chuckled heartily.
Mother Cheng then presented the soundly sleeping Xiao Qi, announcing, "Come see your precious eldest grandson."
Father Qi had been itching for this moment. As Mother Cheng brought out the baby, he fidgeted unsurely, muttering, "After that long dusty trip, let me wash up first."
He dashed off to the bathroom without pause, scrubbing his hands and face clean.
Mother Cheng passed the infant over, and Father Qi's face beamed as he cradled him.
"Wonderful, wonderful. He favors the daughter-in-law more. Brows and nose like his dad, that broad forehead spells good fortune." Father Qi settled in, clutching his grandson close, utterly captivated.
After some time, he handed the baby over to Father Cheng with reluctance: "Let grandpa have a turn holding him!"
Father Cheng had already cleaned his hands and face. Aided by his wife, he took his grandson, his features glowing with pure joy.
His daughter and son-in-law enjoyed a harmonious marriage, free from worries over sustenance, and now blessed with a son—nothing more to fret about.
"Dad, how are Mom's legs doing?" Cheng Su inquired of Father Qi.
"Improving bit by bit. She itched to come, but I said with those legs, she'd hinder more than help with the baby, so she agreed to stay put!" Father Qi replied grinning.
"No issue at all. Once confinement ends, bring the little one to visit her!" Mother Cheng teased.
Cheng Su pondered briefly, then suggested, "Later, I'll grab a camera and capture some shots of the baby. Dad, take those back for Mom to enjoy too."
Cameras cost a pretty penny, yet documenting the child's milestones made it worthwhile. Snapping pictures now, developing them, and sending home would ease Mother Qi's grandson cravings.
Father Qi lit up at the idea: "Perfect, keeps her from worrying nonstop!"
Cheng Su beamed.
Father Cheng wondered if the baby had a name yet.
Cheng Su answered, "Full name's Qi Fang. Born on Double Seventh Festival, and 'Qi' matches our family name, so we call him Xiao Qi. Dad, your thoughts?" She aimed this at Father Qi. Village customs sometimes dictated naming rules; she feared he might object.
Father Qi mulled it over, liking how it rolled off the tongue, and nodded, "Fine by me, sounds great. You and Taiguo picked it, so it's settled!"
Cheng Su and Mother Cheng both exhaled in relief; Mother Cheng had fretted over potential in-law pushback, but with none, all was well.
