Cheng Su recovered swiftly from natural childbirth and returned home with her newborn after two days in the hospital. In the oppressive July heat, Mother Cheng enforced strict confinement rules, prohibiting baths and direct fan use despite Cheng Su's discomfort. With Qi Taiguo's support, Cheng Su persuaded her mother to allow a fan in the room's corner and a ginger-water sponge bath.

After squeezing the ginger water from the towel and wiping her body clean, her skin stung slightly, yet it beat the sticky mess from before. The scorching heat had Cheng Su wishing she could strip down and sprawl out bare.

"Bear with it a bit longer; you can bathe again in just a few days. I’m only doing this to protect you from postpartum troubles," Qi Taiguo reassured her.

"Labor was tough enough, but this recovery phase feels even worse. It’s way too hot," Cheng Su grumbled with a pout, "I should’ve pulled strings to snag an air conditioner, even importing one from overseas if needed."

She recalled hearing about window air conditioners, but Luh Kai had checked—the supply and marketing co-ops in Qing City had none, and she wasn’t certain about elsewhere, so she dropped the idea.

Reflecting on it, if Qing City lacked them, perhaps major hubs like Guangcheng or the Capital stocked them? They must exist overseas!

Alas, with the baby already here and her in postpartum confinement, regrets were pointless; she’d simply tough it out.

"You’ve worked so hard," Qi Taiguo murmured, gently brushing her sweat-soaked hair behind her ear. "This time, I followed my mother-in-law’s advice mostly. She’s experienced this far more than we have, and elders hold plenty of wisdom. I just want you to sail through this safely, so we can enjoy a long future side by side."

Cheng Su’s face remained wan and pale, tugging painfully at Qi Taiguo’s heart and stirring an odd unease within him.

His tender words prompted Cheng Su to tease, "Your words are turning sweeter by the day."

"You’re my wife—of course I want only the best for you. We’re meant for a lifetime together!" Qi Taiguo declared.

Cheng Su let out a soft huff, her gaze shifting to his arm, where she froze in surprise.

Tracing her stare, Qi Taiguo lifted his arm and noted, "I worry it’ll scar!"

It marked the spot where Cheng Su had sunk her teeth into him amid labor pains. A scab now covered it, but the ring of bite marks stood out starkly, bound to leave a permanent trace.

"Does it pain you?" Cheng Su asked softly, her fingers brushing it lightly.

Qi Taiguo shook his head: "Not at all. Truth be told, I’d prefer the scar lingers, a constant reminder of my duties and all the pain and efforts you endured."

Cheng Su shot him an eye-roll, a lump rising in her throat.

To keep her from getting emotional, Qi Taiguo switched topics: "Decided on a name for our little one yet?"

The shift pulled Cheng Su’s focus, and she replied, "Haven’t you come up with any ideas?"

Qi Taiguo merely grinned, "Whatever you pick is fine by me."

Cheng Su’s heart melted like honey. After a brief pause, she shared, "During labor, I dreamed something gorgeous..."

She described the dream in detail.

Qi Taiguo looked baffled: "What’s that suggest?"

Cheng Su chuckled: "Flowers blooming everywhere—I figured we’d have a big cabbage. Turned out to be a chubby little piglet! But look at him, so fair and rosy..."

She kept chatting away, until Qi Taiguo cleared his throat: "You’re not thinking of a girly name for our boy, right?"

Cheng Su snapped, "Ridiculous! Like I said, flowers in full bloom—let’s name him Qi Fang."

Qi Taiguo paused in shock before giving a helpless smile, "Your naming style is so direct."

"What other option? Some revolutionary name? No thanks," Cheng Su pouted.

Qi Taiguo quickly agreed, "Nope, Qi Fang’s straightforward and memorable. That’s the one!"

Cheng Su beamed in delight, though she wavered briefly: "But what if your father wants to suggest a name too?"

"Don’t fret; we’ve settled on this. Now, how about a nickname?" Qi Taiguo suggested. "He arrived on July 7th, the Cowherd and Weaver Girl’s special day..."

Cheng Su’s skin crawled at once, "Don’t tell me you want to nickname him Cowherd?"
