Awakening The Only SSS-Rank Class! Now Even Dragons Obey Me Chapter 719: The Ceremony III

"Thank you all, our honored guests, for attending this humble ceremony of ours," Alaric’s voice, as the Goblin Guild’s leader, boomed across the entire hall.
"Today, guests have arrived from every part of this nation, along with others from allied neighboring countries."
"Your attendance honors me greatly. I also thank you for showing me respect by journeying here."
"I’ve instructed that our valued guests receive the finest treatment, so kindly enjoy yourselves."
"We’ve all assembled today for one purpose: selecting the new heir to the Goblin Guild, my successor. Yet, that individual isn’t prepared just yet."
"I extend my sincerest apologies, but a short wait is necessary."
Once his words concluded, applause, cheers, and gratitude erupted. Alaric, accompanied by his brother Jason, approached to welcome the overseas visitors.
The other attendees surged forward as well. It seemed everyone desperately sought a conversation with him, or at least strove to achieve it.
After all, regardless of anything else, he commanded the nation’s mightiest guild. The authority, strength, and assets under his control defied imagination.
Numerous guests realized that, under usual conditions, meeting him face-to-face was impossible, so they aimed to grasp this chance and forge some link.
"A group of pitiful sycophants," Varnos muttered in a chilly tone while observing the spectacle.
"You can’t fault them much. They’re simply safeguarding their own benefits," Rivon remarked. In their position, he’d act identically.
Daniel paid no heed to their exchange. His gaze locked onto Jason. He probed deeply into the man’s essence. From the start, this fellow had displayed outright animosity toward him.
Yet, he couldn’t discern the reason, especially since Jason made no effort to conceal it now.
’This Goblin Guild leader holds immense power. Actually, he’s the most formidable Rank S I’ve encountered,’ Daniel set aside the Jason matter temporarily to concentrate on Alaric.
Moments later, a frown creased his brow. Strangely, whenever he attempted to scrutinize this man, a profoundly sinister and alarming sensation overwhelmed him, like a warning against proceeding.
His heart even raced from that dreadful feeling.
What in the world was that? He strongly suspected it didn’t originate from the man himself. Remarkably, it resembled the power Kaelos wielded before dying.
As though sourced from the identical origin... Was that feasible?
"You old folks clustering here?" A woman’s voice interrupted Varnos and Rivon’s chat, capturing their focus.
"Oh, old lady, you’re still kicking!" Rivon grinned upon spotting the striking young woman approaching them.
She possessed long raven hair, breathtaking looks, a captivating figure, and eyes... eyes resembling those of the sightless?
Her eyes mirrored a blind person’s—same hue, same vacant expression.
But how could an Awakened suffer blindness?
"A gathering packed with lowlifes and garbage, even welcoming a killer," Varnos sneered upon glimpsing the woman.
"Hey hey, how dare you mock a beauty like me? Plus, you’re present too, so how are you any better than the other riffraff here?" Mirael shot back with matching sarcasm.
Then her attention shifted to Daniel. As an assassin, her perceptions and instincts ranked exceptionally keen, surpassing all others there.
The instant she regarded this youth, a chill of mortality seized her. Her instincts shrieked that provoking him would spell her doom.
Yet, did that hold any logic? The boy appeared scarcely twenty.
"Who’s this?" she inquired.
"The prized gem of my guild," Varnos stated evenly. He anticipated she might detect specifics.
"Pleased to meet you. I’m Mirael," Mirael offered her hand.
"Likewise. I’m Daniel," Daniel responded, extending his own. They clasped hands.
Yet, upon contact, a known energy sought to invade his form and inspect its contents.
That energy shattered instantly, though Daniel identified the woman’s cultivated law as the Law of Death. It fell short of his mastery, yet remained formidable.
"First time encountering another practitioner of the Law of Death apart from me," Mirael commented with an alluring grin, evidently sensing something herself.
"Same here."
"This must be destiny, right? Perhaps we’re fated to meet today and wed!" the woman exclaimed abruptly in a utterly mad and exuberant manner.
Rivon’s jaw hung slack in astonishment, while Varnos cast her an odd glance. He was acquainted with this woman, head of the nation’s premier assassination group. She enjoyed jesting, but never about such matters.
This behavior was utterly uncharacteristic.
"Appreciate it, but I’ve got someone else picked for marriage," Daniel declined the alluring proposition smilingly.
"Such a pity," Mirael sighed, withdrawing her hand.
"You get a proposal once in a lifetime and reject it," Rivon teased with laughter, only to receive a sharp slap that silenced him at once.
"Shut up!" the woman barked furiously, then pivoted to another topic.
"Anyway, Varnos, I fretted over you. Are you alright? Why pull that foolish stunt?" She directed her gaze at him.
"I’m okay. Thanks for your concern," Varnos replied with utter detachment, offering no full explanation.
Mirael grasped her friend’s implication. He wished her to avoid this issue. But how could she comply?
Varnos’s wife had been a true sister to her, and she viewed Varnos as a brother. Upon hearing of this fool’s actions, she’d yearned to intervene.
Yet, discovering the Goblin Guild hadn’t lodged a complaint, she retreated... The cause for her delayed visit to Varnos... their rapport wasn’t ideal currently.
Post the death of Varnos’s wife, she’d faulted Varnos for it. A massive argument fractured their connection deeply.
They’d spoken little since, and Varnos evidently desired to maintain that separation and impartiality.
She fretted over this fool, yet he clung to past resentments. She acknowledged her past error.
Back then, losing a sister-like figure had unhinged her; rationality fled, words escaped unfiltered.
But must he persist in this treatment after so long?
She muttered inwardly. Let this idiot do as he pleased; she was done caring. She turned to depart.
However... spotting Alaric and Jason heading directly for Varnos and Daniel’s table, her footsteps halted abruptly.
