Awakening The Only SSS-Rank Class! Now Even Dragons Obey Me Chapter 709: Meeting The Guild Leader

Upon reaching the guild, Daniel headed directly toward the leader's office. He'd already notified them of his arrival, and a message from Lana confirmed that only her father was present at the time.
Lana failed to mention her own whereabouts, and Daniel chose not to probe further.
"Come in." The voice of Varnos, the guild leader, echoed from behind the door.
Daniel pushed the door open and spotted the guild leader seated in his chair, seemingly going over various documents. A teacup sat nearby, and exhaustion was evident on his features.
"Daniel? Welcome!" Varnos brightened upon recognizing him, rising to his feet. He greeted his visitor warmly and motioned for him to take a seat.
"It's been quite some time since our last meeting, Mr. Varnos."
"Indeed, it has been a while. However, Lana mentioned that you've provided tremendous assistance to the guild lately and even rescued my daughter." The guild leader settled onto the sofa opposite him.
"I meant to express my gratitude earlier, but my daughter informed me you were in the Celestial Domain. So, I'll do it now. I'm genuinely thankful." Varnos conveyed his appreciation with sincerity.
He was aware of the terrorist situation and realized that without this young man's intervention, events could have spiraled into far greater turmoil and peril.
"No thanks are necessary. You've assisted me plenty too," Daniel replied with a faint smile. His voice remained steady and unassuming, neither overly modest nor haughty.
"We aided you just once. Since then, it's been you supporting us repeatedly. Actually, throughout this period, the guild has essentially weighed you down like an additional load." The guild leader let out a sigh.
He sensed that they had unintentionally burdened this youth with numerous issues, yet he struggled to find a way to compensate.
"Whatever you desire, just say it. If it's within my ability, I'll certainly make it happen for you," he concluded.
Daniel remained quiet for a moment. He didn't outright decline, nor did he request anything immediately. In truth, he required nothing from this guild, and the leader's assessment was accurate—they'd only aided him once.
From that point onward, it was consistently him coming to their aid, be it the S-rank dungeon crisis, the terrorist threat, or rescuing Naya. Despite all that, he harbored no resentment.
This was because he envisioned leveraging this guild as a base to propagate the Religion of Eternity in this realm as well. That's right—he aimed to found the Religion of Eternity here too.
Was it a challenge? Absolutely. Far more so than in the Celestial Domain. Yet he possessed his own strategies. For those plans, the Everlight Moon guild had to rise to dominance over this nation.
Only in that way could he build his own faction, one that would facilitate the dissemination and advancement of the religion.
Earlier, he'd had no intention of setting up the Religion of Eternity in this world. The reasons were its time-intensive nature, immense difficulty, and the potential interference from the Demi Gods.
The absence of a backer as formidable as Evangelin in this world only compounded the obstacles.
But now?
To ascend to true godhood as swiftly as possible, he had to proceed.
Although he couldn't yet rival the Demi Gods, he was bound to clash with them regardless due to their actions against his father.
So, what was the point in postponing?
Nevertheless, at present, he had no plans to reveal any of this to others. His priority was to restore and grow the religion back in the Celestial Domain.
"If you really wish to repay me, then answer a single question," he stated at last.
"Hmm? Certainly. Feel free to ask anything." Varnos appeared mildly taken aback. Clearly, he hadn't anticipated this, but he offered no resistance.
"Why did you confront the Goblin Guild by yourself and end up captured?" Daniel inquired.
Varnos's expression grew somber. A profound scowl formed, his gaze turned intricate, and his eyebrows furrowed tightly. It seemed he was at a loss for words.
No... he knew what to say. But he couldn't bring himself to, nor did he desire to. This was a matter he hadn't shared even with his daughters.
"Could you pose a different question?"
"If this one's too difficult to address, that's alright. You needn't respond. But I won't alter my query."
The guild leader exhaled deeply. He averted his eyes, fixing them on the ceiling, as though wrestling inwardly about whether to reveal it.
"I discovered that the Goblin Guild was behind my wife's demise," he admitted eventually.
"Behind your wife's death? But in what manner? And how did you uncover that?" Daniel's brow creased sharply. A web of more intricate queries arose in his thoughts.
"It dates back several years. Back then, a squad comprising the nation's top S-ranks and A-ranks was dispatched to a dungeon beyond our borders. My wife accompanied me. I'd recently attained S-rank, while she was at the pinnacle of A-rank."
"Our task involved exploration rather than clearance, so the dungeon itself posed no problems. Yet, during our return journey, unknown terrorists ambushed us. In that clash, my wife lost her life." Varnos's voice grew icier, laced with deepening grief.
"Then, last month, a letter arrived bearing proof that those terrorists were backed and directed by the Goblin Guild." His tone ignited with murderous rage and fury.
Daniel held his tongue, his mind racing through the details.
He was familiar with that dungeon incident. After all, earlier this year, the guild leader had undertaken a comparable mission and faced another terrorist assault.
It wasn't difficult to infer that the Goblin Guild supported those terrorists. Daniel had already deduced as much previously.
But the real puzzle was, who had informed Varnos?
"It was the Goblin Guild themselves." He sighed to himself. Their plot was transparent to him. They sought to tarnish Varnos's standing and undermine the Everlight Moon guild.
That evidence likely wasn't robust enough for formal validation, but it sufficed to persuade Varnos. And they anticipated his immediate response perfectly.
Naturally, there must be an additional motive. Daniel felt certain of it. But what else could it be?
"Please refrain from informing my daughter about this yet. Not for the time being. The terrorists had displayed the corpses of their victims on the walls. Lana once glimpsed an image of her mother's suspended body."
"Should she learn the Goblin Guild orchestrated it, her reaction could surpass even mine."
"I'll withhold it from her. But kindly avoid any more reckless actions," Daniel agreed with a nod.
"Rest assured. I realize that with my present power, I can't achieve much. In truth, vengeance might remain out of reach forever." Varnos chuckled, though the sound brimmed with melancholy.
He felt utterly inadequate, didn't he? Incapable of even avenging his spouse.
"In any case, let's shift gears. You've evidently surged in strength over this interval. Moreover, I advised against heading to the gulf, yet you ignored me."
"Well, I decided I was capable enough to venture there," Daniel quipped lightly.
"Is that so? How about a sparring match? We've never crossed blades before. Allow me to gauge the might of the one who obliterated a whole terrorist organization," Varnos challenged with a teasing edge.
"Sure," Daniel accepted without hesitation. He too was eager to assess his enhanced prowess. This presented a fine chance.
Though Varnos was unaware that this proposal would prove to be a grave error.
