Awakening The Only SSS-Rank Class! Now Even Dragons Obey Me Chapter 1: Death At The Start
The towering silhouettes of Sanctis Central High School's buildings extended over the street, forming massive barriers. This institution ranked among the largest for Awakened in Sanctis city, molding the upcoming prodigies of the world.
A youth rested against the wall, pockets stuffed with his hands, scanning the students emerging from the grounds.
"...How nostalgic, haha. It looks like, compared to Earth's schools, the ones here aren't so dull."
Memories that resembled distant dreams now flooded his thoughts—his existence back on Earth. Nothing more than a routine life, shared by all.
He hadn't originated from this realm, yet inexplicably, reincarnation had brought him here.
This realm differed vastly from his former one. Magic existed here, along with awakenings and Awakened individuals. Dungeons teemed with fearsome beasts whose might surpassed any Earthly technology.
Here, youths aged 16 to 18 underwent the awakening ritual. Success granted them a class.
Initially, he believed this offered a fresh opportunity—perhaps to rise as a mythic fighter, excel in combats, and etch his legacy into the annals of time.
Yet, upon his awakening, the system delivered a stark verdict:
[ No talent detected in any field. ]
"Talentless."
He let out a sigh. Reincarnation had merely bestowed upon him a existence riddled with shame and derision.
Not all viewed him that way, however. Beyond his mother, only his younger sister Alice genuinely supported him. At just sixteen, she shone as one of the brightest new Awakened, with elite national guilds vying to enlist her.
Daniel, though? He drew zero attention.
He gazed upward at the heavens. Did their absent father harbor similar sentiments?
Details about him eluded Daniel. Their mother described him as an extraordinary figure but withheld further insights.
He shook his head to dispel the notions, yet at that instant—
"Isn't that the talentless one?"
Whispers drifted from a cluster of nearby students.
"Yeah, but have you seen his sister? Rumors say a premier guild is eager to recruit her."
"Weird, how can siblings differ so much? One's a prodigy, the other's garbage."
Daniel blinked.
Trash.
A term repeated endlessly in his ears. He could confront them, shout in fury, perhaps strike out, but... what purpose would it serve?
Ultimately, he offered a chilly grin and remained silent in place.
The school bell chimed.
The academy's grand gates swung wide, releasing a flood of students.
And amidst the crowd—
"Daniel!"
A voice he knew well, always lifting his spirits.
He pivoted toward it and spotted his sister. A girl boasting flowing white locks and vivid brown eyes.
Alice dashed to him with a radiant smile, embracing him readily.
"What happened? Why'd you decide to pick me up today?"
"Mom had some things to handle." Daniel managed a soft smile.
"What? You don't enjoy your brother fetching you?"
"Of course not! I adore it!" Alice beamed, prompting a light chuckle from Daniel.
They climbed into the vehicle and drove off.
The car glided along the serene path as Alice chattered enthusiastically about fresh gossip from school.
"Can you believe it? Fallen Sun extended an invitation for their latest squad!"
Daniel arched his brows. "Fallen Sun?"
"Yes! Among the nation's top five guilds!"
Fallen Sun stood as a premier guild. Legend held that its head, "Caesar Valentine," numbered among the rare few who conquered the tower's eighth level.
This organization operated beyond local dungeons, venturing into the Celestial Domain, accepting only the elite among elites.
"So, you're set to join the ranks of elite Awakened, eh?" Daniel shrugged with a laugh.
Alice giggled. "Well, not quite elite yet, but..."
Her words halted abruptly.
The atmosphere shifted.
Daniel's brow furrowed. Abruptly, silence enveloped everything.
The breeze ceased.
The heavens... flushed crimson.
An unseen surge of power pulsed through the atmosphere. Any Awakened would sense it.
A fissure tore across the sky.
From within, monstrous forms plummeted.
Screeches of screeching tires and panicked cries erupted on the road. Peace had reigned moments before, now replaced by a nightmarish chaos.
Out of the scarlet tear above, Beasts of Corruption descended like accursed precipitation. Entities clad in bodies marred by dark gashes, with eerie glowing orbs in the shadows, and maws crafted solely for rending flesh.
Colossal figures resembling enormous ursines, yet bearing charred, scorched hides as though forged in infernos. Their bulged sinews were etched with crimson fissures oozing molten lava.
Contrasting their forms, they sported enormous craniums devoid of eyes, harboring infernal blazes within.
Each exhalation spewed flames from their skeletal maws.
Some bore two or even three heads, each aflame in varied hues.
"A dimensional break! Damn it!" Daniel gaped at the horror, his pulse thundering as if ready to erupt.
He knew these abominations! They belonged to the corrupted beast type called Blightbearers.
He hadn't anticipated entanglement in such a dimensional rupture. Why did misfortune cling to him so relentlessly?
Beside him, Alice lifted her palm, summoning a silvery radiant blade in an instant. Her powers had awakened—she possessed strength, yet insufficient against these horrors.
After all, she remained merely a novice, fresh from her class awakening.
"We must aid the others!" Despite her efforts to conceal it, terror laced her tone.
Alice leaped from the car resolutely and charged into the fray.
"Damn it! Alice, stop! Return to the car!" Daniel bolted after her to restrain her.
"This—" Nightmarish sights assaulted him suddenly.
A man in his middle years, fleeing desperately, got shredded by a beast in a flash.
A lady clutching her young child cowered behind a vehicle.
Daniel yearned to act—somehow—but paralysis gripped him.
He lacked even Awakened status. In this realm, he amounted to a frail, mundane mortal.
Then, Alice's cry pierced the air.
She battled fiercely, her blade work precise, yet inadequate to fell these fiends. Her inexperience showed.
Blightbearers ranked at minimum D-class, far beyond a newcomer like Alice's capabilities.
And abruptly... the mightiest among them fixed its stare on Alice.
A three-meter behemoth, talons gleaming like lethal edges, eyes brimming with fury and voracity.
Daniel witnessed the creature lunging at Alice—swifter than any ordinary person could counter.
"No!"
Yet before Alice could react, before the fiend closed in—
Daniel hurled himself before the monster.
The creature's talon impaled his torso.
Agony beyond comprehension. Daniel's eyes bulged, crimson fluid pouring from his lips.
"Brother!! Nooo!!" Alice wailed.
"No no no, you can't leave us, please!" Sobs cascaded down Alice's cheeks.
Daniel collapsed to the earth.
The clamor of conflict and shrieks faded into irrelevance.
Only the chill of mortality enveloped him.
Yet, an odd occurrence unfolded.
Rather than perishing, his form started drawing in an enigmatic force.
His blood specks hung suspended, shimmering like scarlet gems.
"W... what?"
And a voice resounded within his consciousness.
[ Mother System has accepted your will. ]
[ Conditions for reawakening met. ]
[ Beginning reawakening process... ]
Everything went Black
