The door was at the far end of the passage.

It wasn’t an ordinary door. It was a space portal developed using the latest technology in the universe. To open it, they first needed the key.

Fortunately, Takasugi, who had joined the Heavenly Council and the Void Group on the surface, had managed to get the key. He was also willing to work with his former teammates, Katsura Kotaro and Sakata Gintoki.

Just as the group members had predicted, Takasugi Shinsuke, the former leader of the Demon Army, really was working as a spy. He had known about Void’s existence for a long time. He also knew that Void was actually his supposedly dead teacher, Yoshida ShoYo.

Whether he was trying to save his teacher or destroy Void, Takasugi had been using every resource and connection he had to infiltrate the Harusame pirate fleet. But he had made very little progress. Then, half a month ago, members of the Heavenly Council came to him in person.

That was when Takasugi learned what his two former companions had done.

The members of the Heavenly Council thought they were being clever. They believed they could use Takasugi to deal with Katsura Kotaro and Sakata Gintoki. That was why they treated him so generously and even made him part of their inner circle.

Unfortunately, those ambitious men had become far too arrogant. They thought they could tame Takasugi, turning the wild beast into a house pet. But a wild beast was still a wild beast. Once the time was right, it would bare its fangs.

Splurt.

Bright red blood sprayed through the air as two members of the Heavenly Council, dressed in expensive robes, collapsed to the ground with hatred in their eyes.

Takasugi Shinsuke flicked the blood from his blade. His expression was calm and indifferent. To him, this was also a battle of revenge.

Their teacher had been forced into a confrontation by the Heavenly Council and the Naraku faction, and Sakata Gintoki had been the one to cut off his head. Now that those people had died by Takasugi’s sword, it felt like fate had come full circle.

"Void isn’t here." Katsura Kotaro had already taken off the purple kimono he had been wearing and changed into a tight black outfit that looked like something a ninja would wear. "Did he run away?"

"Hey, Wig Guy." Takasugi glanced at him in surprise and frowned. "Come to think of it, have you started doing magic tricks now?"

"They’re just a few practical little tricks." Katsura Kotaro knew what he meant, but didn’t bother to explain seriously.

He had been able to change so quickly because he had a personal pocket space. Using it as a wardrobe was quick and convenient. But that wasn’t something he could explain easily, and he didn’t particularly want to try.

"Hmph. Little tricks?" Takasugi turned his face away and didn’t ask any more questions.

He knew that Katsura and Gintoki were hiding some kind of secret, a truly incredible secret. That secret had completely changed both of them and transformed their abilities.

Takasugi had witnessed it himself while spying on them, and he had felt the difference firsthand when he crossed swords with Wig Guy earlier. The three of them had once been evenly matched, but now Takasugi had been left far behind.

Still, Takasugi didn’t care. He wasn’t disappointed, either. He had only one goal now: kill Void and destroy the Heavenly Council.

Boom!

A deafening explosion suddenly came from the hall on the left, violently shaking the entire floor. A battered figure burst through the wall and landed at Katsura Kotaro and Takasugi’s feet.

It was a thin, red-haired young man. A bright red fist mark stood out clearly on his handsome face.

"Well, well. This is pretty scary." The young man wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and struggled to his feet. Ignoring Takasugi and Wig Guy beside him, he stared sharply at the wall that had been smashed open in front of him. "It’s been a long time since I’ve fought someone like that."

"Kid, we don’t have time to play house with you." Sakata Gintoki’s familiar voice rang in Takasugi Shinsuke’s ears. The man in the white kimono slowly emerged from the rubble. "Tell me. Where are the rest of those Heavenly Council bastards?"

"Do you really need to ask? They’re in the cargo hold at the very back." The red-haired boy smiled and answered frankly. "Those weaklings never planned to fight you face-to-face."

"Huh?" Sakata Gintoki raised an eyebrow. "You just gave away their location that easily? You’re not messing with me, are you?"

"I’ve never liked joking around, Samurai." The red-haired boy tilted his head. "Besides, you’ve got the wrong idea about why I’m here. I’m not their bodyguard. I came here because I wanted to fight someone strong."

"I see. That does sound like you." Sakata Gintoki nodded in understanding.

Of course he knew the red-haired boy in front of him. He was Kamui, the older brother of Kagura, one of Gintoki’s employees. Unlike his "weak" little sister, Kamui was a genuine battle maniac. He had even attacked his own father when he was still a child.

"Then enough talk." Kamui’s eyes sharpened again as he took a breath. "Let’s start round two, Samurai."

His body blurred as he charged at Sakata Gintoki once more.

Seeing his companion apparently locked in a tough fight, Katsura Kotaro turned and left without the slightest hesitation. Before going, he fired a Thunder Cannon at the entrance. The falling rubble blocked the way in.

Wig Guy: Leave the remaining members of the Heavenly Council and Void to me. Gintoki, you can rest easy and go on ahead.

Curly-haired Guy: You bastard...

Doujin Artist: What the hell is going on?

Curly-haired Guy: That bastard blew up the entire hall so he could keep all the enemies for himself. Damn it!

Skirt-Flipping Maniac: You two really are something else. Nobody stabs each other in the back better than you do.

Lin Fengjiao: I guess this is what they mean by having a friend who brings out the worst in you.

Lazy Kitten: Can’t you two just work together? If you would cooperate, this mission would obviously be easy to finish.

Curly-haired Guy: No way we’re cooperating! I’ve decided to cut ties with this bastard. From now on, I don’t know him!

Wig Guy: Hmph. That’s exactly what I was going to say.

Two flashes of silver streaked through the air. Several lifeless members of the Heavenly Council collapsed at Katsura Kotaro’s feet. Their eyes were wide open, and their final expressions were filled with a desperate longing to live.

"What beautiful swordsmanship." Void, seated in the main chair, lightly clapped his hands and smiled. "You seem much stronger than before, Katsura."

"I won’t agree with you until I’ve killed you for good." Katsura Kotaro slowly raised his head, his expression calm. "Get ready, bastard!"
