Apocalypse: King of Zombies Chapter 1275: They Ran… the Moment He Arrived

After relocating over a million survivors and merging four compounds, the new Fallen Star City is overwhelmed by resource scarcity and rising tensions. While Ethan assumes a symbolic leadership role to avoid undermining the new governor, he's called to Nova City compound where Rowan Pierce is requesting aid against approaching red-skinned monsters.

Along the coastline, several smaller settlements had already been decimated. The inhabitants recognized the significance of such locations—an unending supply of sustenance.

With excited howls of hunger, the five crimson-skinned monstrosities charged directly towards the compound.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

Heavy artillery boomed, and shells impacted the ground near their feet, carving out enormous craters and sending dirt and smoke billowing into the sky.

This barrage only served to impede their progress momentarily.

It inflicted no actual harm. Not even close.

Mere moments later, the crimson-skinned creatures emerged from the dust cloud, continuing their charge as if unaffected.

“Ranged Enhanced units—open fire!” a voice commanded.

A torrent of ranged abilities assailed them, encompassing ice shards, gusts of wind, and bolts of energy – every offensive capability the defenders possessed.

The impact was negligible.

The assaults struck their bodies, but it was as if they were merely raindrops. The monsters did not even falter.

They breached the barrage and reached the main gate.

The formidable walls that had protected Nova City for years crumbled as if made of mere cardboard. A single, casual push, and sections of the fortifications collapsed with a groaning roar.

“Melee units! Engage!” the commander atop the wall bellowed.

Despite knowing the futility, he maintained a steady voice, issuing orders as if mere discipline could hold the world together.

High-tier Enhanced individuals charged repeatedly, hurling themselves against the crimson-skinned fiends.

They perished like swarming insects.

Swatted aside. Crushed. Torn asunder.

Tales often spoke of “ants overwhelming an elephant.”

However, this strategy only proved effective if the ants possessed the capability to breach the elephant’s hide.

If the skin cannot be pierced, even a million bodies would prove meaningless.

The sole reason Nova City had not yet been reduced to a smoldering ruin was the crimson-skinned monsters' strategic decision to treat the humans within as sustenance.

They refrained from deploying their fire-based abilities.

The reason being, the instant they did, everything in the vicinity would ignite into ash – leaving no meat to consume.

Thus, even as individuals assailed them from all directions, the monsters advanced with deliberate slowness, dispatching foes as they moved… and consuming them as they went.

From the pinnacle of the tallest structure within the compound, Rowan and other high-ranking officials observed, their faces etched with profound sorrow.

It was only at this moment that they truly grasped the terrifying might of the Fallen Star Squad.

Previously, they had witnessed Ethan’s team driving away these crimson-skinned monsters and presumed, perhaps incorrectly, that the creatures were not entirely “invincible.”

Now, they understood the depth of their miscalculation.

To them – to ordinary individuals – these monsters appeared truly invincible.

Rowan watched soldiers fall one after another, and the overwhelming helplessness caused his chest to ache. His only recourse was to fervently wish for the Fallen Star Squad to arrive sooner.

As if his plea had been heard—

Approximately ten minutes later, several sharp cries echoed from above.

A number of flying mounts sliced through the heavens, accelerating towards the compound at an alarming velocity.

The instant the defenders identified those colossal avian creatures, the entire compound vibrated with pent-up emotion. People began to tremble uncontrollably.

One could only truly comprehend the value of hope after experiencing the depths of utter despair.

At this precise juncture, these mounts represented Nova City’s sole remaining hope.

The crimson-skinned monsters also noticed their approach.

Their expressions shifted instantaneously.

Then, astonishingly, they turned and fled—vanishing into the distance as if their very lives were at stake.

This sight left everyone utterly bewildered.

These dreaded monstrosities… fleeing the moment the Fallen Star Squad appeared?

The sheer pressure emanating from such a spectacle was inconceivable.

Ethan and his companions locked onto the five targets without delay.

No hesitation was displayed.

Ethan simply dislodged Dopey from his perch.

With numerous individuals present within the compound, this was hardly the appropriate location for “training” or prolonging combat. It was imperative to conclude the engagement swiftly. Furthermore, Dopey had already made its presence known at Silverlake; concealing it further served no purpose.

Dopey impacted the ground and became a blur of motion.

It materialized behind one of the crimson-skinned monsters—

No ostentatious techniques. No preliminary wind-up.

A single, decisive punch.

The monster disintegrated into a voluminous cloud of sanguineous mist.

Dopey vanished once more, reappearing behind another adversary—

A single punch.

A mist of blood.

Again.

And again.

By the time observers’ eyes could even begin to track its movements, all five crimson-skinned monsters had been casually dismantled by a punch each.

Five forms were erased as if they had never held significance.

A profound silence descended upon the compound.

All present could only stare in stunned disbelief.

Without direct combat experience against the crimson-skinned monsters, comprehending the true meaning of “scaring them into retreat” was difficult. It sounded utterly preposterous.

But these individuals had faced them directly.

They understood unequivocally the sheer terror these creatures instilled.

And now, they had witnessed one individual obliterate them into bloody mist with a singular strike each.

Had this not transpired before their very eyes, no one would have readily believed it.

What manner of terrifying entity was this?

The crowd strained, attempting to gain a clear view of the one responsible—

And then, Ethan’s form became visible.

A moment later, Dopey simply… vanished.

Without a sound, leaving no trace. It was as if it had never existed.

The expressions on the faces of the assembly shifted from shock to bewilderment, a ripple of confused murmurs spreading as everyone struggled to process the astonishing event they had just witnessed.

Ethan calmly pocketed the five crystal cores.

Two Tier 17 cores. Three Tier 16 cores.

That alone was enough to put him in a great mood.

“Ethan—thank you!”

Rowan rushed over with a group of compound executives and bowed deeply.

“Thank you, Ethan! Thank you, Fallen Star Squad!” people shouted from all around them, faces full of raw gratitude.

Everyone here understood it perfectly: if Fallen Star Squad hadn’t made it in time, they’d be dead.

The scene actually made Ethan a little awkward.

He hadn’t come out of pure charity. He’d come for high-tier crystal cores.

…Still, he could accept the thanks. He had saved them.

“Ethan, this way, please.” Rowan gestured respectfully.

Ethan nodded. He didn’t love crowds like this. The way they looked at him was too intense—like he was some kind of saint—and it made his skin crawl.

They quickly made their way to the main conference room at the center of the compound. Ethan didn’t bother with small talk.

“General Pierce. How many red-skinned monsters’ locations do you have right now?”

“For the last two days, we’ve sent out a lot of scouts and drones,” Rowan said. “At the moment, we’ve confirmed the positions of more than two hundred red-skinned monsters.”

“Good.” Ethan nodded. “Send me the locations. Over the next few days, I’ll take them out one by one.”

“Alright.” Rowan nodded quickly.

Then he hesitated, looking a little helpless. “But… there are still more than three hundred red-skinned monsters we’ve lost track of.”

Rowan drew a breath. “Ethan… can I ask a favor? Something a little… unreasonable?”

“Say it.”

“It’s just…” Rowan looked embarrassed, but he forced the words out. “Could I ask you to stay in Nova City for a while? You know how it is—if you’re not here, we don’t have the power to resist them at all.”

“Sure.” Ethan smiled. “Arrange a place for us to stay. We’ll base in Nova City for now.”

He’d planned to stick around anyway.

These red-skinned monsters were basically walking treasure chests. There was no way he was letting them roam free.

“Really?” Rowan’s face lit up like someone had just handed him his life back. “That’s—this is great!”

The other higher-ups in the room looked just as overwhelmed, some of them practically shaking with relief.

“Hurry and arrange lodging for Ethan and his people!” Rowan snapped, turning sharp with urgency. “Give them the best mansion in the compound. The best.”

“Yes—right away!” The only woman in the room shot to her feet and rushed out.

Rowan had them treated to a huge meal. Then the Squad went right back out.

Hunting.

With Rowan’s intel, it was point-and-click. They found the targets fast and hit them clean.

After several waves of kills, Ethan’s strength finally climbed to Tier 17 peak.

They found a safe spot to rest. Ethan sat on the ground, pulled out a Tier 18 crystal core, and tossed it into his mouth like a piece of candy.

His eyes gleamed.

“Next…” He let out a breath, almost laughing at himself. “Time for another power spike.”

A chilling aura filled the air, a silent harbinger of the grim fate that awaited them.

The eerie silence was broken by the distant cries of the mutated creatures, a stark reminder of the world's transformation. A young man, his face etched with determination, stood firm against the encroaching darkness.

Young Master Gu

My name is...

Lin Feng

The cultivator before him trembled.

Even the formidable Elder Tian could not hold back his apprehension.

“Young Master Gu—this beast’s Qi is not something we can trifle with. Its aura alone is enough to crush ordinary cultivators,” Elder Tian stammered, his voice laced with fear.

Young Master Gu nodded solemnly.

We must

The sect’s hope.

He needed to be cautious.

A flicker of resolve in his eyes.

Young Master Gu spoke, his voice steady, “And yet, we must fight. Even if it means facing our doom, we cannot cower. We must protect our home!”

He gritted his teeth.

Elder Tian

His heart pounded.

The disciples of the sect.

The precious resources.

He couldn't let them down.

“Then, we follow your lead, Young Master Gu!” Elder Tian declared, his voice regaining its strength. “We will stand with you, no matter the cost. We will charge forward, and unleash our offensive with all our might. With the sect’s formidable techniques and our unwavering resolve, we will overwhelm this monstrous foe!”

Young Master Gu

I understand.

Lin Feng’s words.

He had to seize the opportunity.

The elder’s command.

The cultivators charged.

The beast roared.

It lunged forward.

The air crackled with power.

“Follow me!”

At this moment,

Young Master Gu’s voice, filled with an unyielding spirit, echoed through the battlefield. “We will face this threat head-on! We will not falter! We will unleash the might of our sect’s ultimate techniques and send this monstrous beast back to the abyss from whence it came!”

“Hold the line!”

Elder Tian

Their faces were resolute.

The disciples listened.

He had to believe.

They were ready.

The cultivator's command.
