Apocalypse: King of Zombies Chapter 1207: You Should Really Go Out Less
Previously on Apocalypse: King of Zombies...
In the heart of an office within Atlas City’s sprawling compound…
General Maxwell Kane's forehead creased deeper as he absorbed the young man's briefing.
“Are you certain those airborne mutant beasts reached at least Tier 9?”
“Affirmative, sir. Judging by their velocity, they hit Tier 9 at minimum.”
“Once you shot at them, they didn't continue heading for the compound?”
“…Correct. That's the puzzling part for me as well.” The young man appeared truly perplexed. “Given the ferocious nature of mutant beasts, an attack should've provoked retaliation. Yet they simply veered away and departed.”
He paused briefly before continuing, “However… there's another detail, and I'm unsure how to phrase it.”
“Out with it.”
“A few of our folks caught a hazy glimpse using binoculars. It appeared as if… humans rode atop those birds.”
“Humans?!” Maxwell's eyes bulged in shock.
“Indeed, though the distance was too great. Visibility was poor, so confirmation's impossible.”
Silence gripped Maxwell as he pondered deeply. Moments later, he raised his gaze, fixing it intently on the young man.
“Verify if outsiders entered the compound today.”
“Right away, sir!”
The young man saluted with a nod and dashed off.
At the same time…
Ethan along with his companions roamed the compound, inquiring about the Void Realm's whereabouts.
Renowned across Atlas City, the Void Realm was known to nearly everyone as a “mysterious spatial domain.”
Yet its precise location eluded all. Evidently, authorities guarded that intel fiercely.
Extended questioning yielded zilch for Ethan's team—merely chatter and hearsay. It proved far less valuable than General Cross's insights.
This outcome was logical. Such a site demanded strict secrecy. Civilians remaining ignorant was expected. General Cross's ties in Atlas City naturally granted him superior access.
“Seems we need high-level channels,” Ethan murmured, weighing options.
“Let's proceed to the central district for a closer inspection.”
Typically, compounds housed their leadership cores at the center. Knowledge of the Void Realm portal would belong to those elites.
The group ventured inward.
Atlas City's compound stretched vastly, turning the journey no short stroll. Reaching the “central zone” demanded considerable time.
Over half an hour passed before luxurious structures crammed a district into view.
Sentries manned every entrance, barring ordinary folk from approach.
Ethan pondered teleporting stealthily inside to interrogate someone when affluent youths abruptly emerged.
Ethan's gaze sharpened eagerly.
A single glance revealed their status—spoiled offspring of elite clans. Precisely the sort privy to Void Realm secrets.
As the cluster neared, a female voice shrieked suddenly—
“You?!”
Heads swiveled in bewilderment toward the outburst.
A vague recognition stirred in Ethan, though her identity escaped him initially.
Sean murmured close to his ear, “Captain, that lady matches one of the pair from Atlas City we encountered in Clearford City.”
“Ah…” Memory clicked for Ethan. “Yeah. Her.”
One of those fools.
“Victoria, acquaintances of yours?” a youth inquired.
“Acquaintances?” Victoria scoffed derisively. “Forget it? My father dispatched Julian and me to Clearford City earlier. That's when I crossed paths with this jerk. He strutted around like a big shot—utterly dismissed us.”
“What? Dismissed you and Julian?” Outrage echoed from another. “Unbelievable.”
“Victoria, why spare them then?”
“Well…” Embarrassment twisted Victoria's features. “Father insisted on discretion outside. Plus, General Cross's domain demanded respect.”
Her glare pierced Ethan. “Yet these fools invade Atlas City. Victoria—shall we settle the score for you?”
“We could humble them,” Victoria replied, voice tinged with doubt. “Though… they pack some power. Better summon reinforcements.”
Insecurity gnawed at her. Previously, she'd overheard General Cross label Ethan Tier 9. His current strength? Unknown.
She herself had ascended to Tier 9, yet trepidation lingered.
“How mighty could hicks from nowhere be?” a male jeered. “We're loaded with Tier 8s and Tier 9s. Frightened by outsiders?”
“Spot on. Disrespecting Victoria demands consequences.”
Victoria mulled it. Atlas City's compound equaled her backyard. Fear seemed absurd.
She faced Ethan with icy disdain. “Such gall. In Clearford City, you branded us fools. Repeat it. Dare you.”
“Fool,” Ethan uttered calmly.
She'd invited it. Truthfully, this woman's mind worked oddly. Utterly dim.
“You…!”
“Still got the nerve—?!” Fury blazed across Victoria's face. She thrust a finger at Ethan, bellowing, “Smash his mouth!”
“With pleasure!”
Youthful males ignited with smirks, as if long awaiting the cue. They advanced menacingly toward Ethan.
“Halt!”
Suddenly, uniformed troops charged in.
The elites flinched at sight of them, retreating to compose themselves innocently.
“Ryan, what's your business here?” Victoria beamed sweetly at the commanding officer.
“Duty calls,” Ryan Kane stated curtly.
He pivoted to Ethan’s group. “You arrived today?”
Ethan affirmed. “Yes. Recently.”
Ryan's eyes narrowed faintly. “Origin?”
“Ryan, I've got this!” Victoria interjected eagerly. “Clearford City scum for sure.”
“Evidence?” Ryan eyed her.
“Julian and I met them during our Clearford trip. Ryan, act—he tormented me! Just called me a fool again!” Her expression turned pathetically aggrieved.
“Your grudge waits.” Ryan dismissed her, refocusing on Ethan. “Care to accompany me within?”
Ethan appraised him momentarily, then agreed. “Fine.”
This fellow ranked highly. Strong odds he held Void Realm details.
“Ryan, explain?” Victoria's facade fractured. “He insults me, yet you court him?”
Ryan scowled her way. “Given your temperament, you should really go out less. Otherwise, sooner or later you’re going to cause a real problem.”
He ignored her henceforth, escorting Ethan’s team indoors.
Ethan shot Victoria a backward grin.
“He’s right, you know.”
Absent his reluctance to stir massive chaos upon arrival, Ethan would've crushed her instantly.
“You…!”
Victoria jabbed at Ethan, jaws grinding audibly. “Mark my words! Atlas City won't tolerate your arrogance!”
Abandoning her outing, she whirled and charged toward her family's residence.
