Apocalypse: I Can See the HP Bar, Killing Monsters Drops Loot Chapter 1883: 809: The Human Extinction Experiment, Theoretical Tenth Rank
Previously on Apocalypse: I Can See the HP Bar, Killing Monsters Drops Loot...
As long as it's a living creature, Wang Tao is able to view its HP bar. Even when the level gap is enormous and the exact figure isn't visible, a series of question marks appears instead.
Yet right now, this white figure displays no HP at all!
Such a scenario was utterly unfamiliar to Wang Tao, except if this white figure wasn't truly alive!
However, the issue lies in the fact that during his previous life, Wang Tao had distinctly observed its stats and recognized it as an apocalypse-class entity!
“Don’t be afraid, I won’t hurt you.”
At that instant, the white figure uttered words once more.
Earlier, its tone had been neutral, lacking any gender or feeling. But this time, it shifted to a soft feminine voice, reminiscent of a refreshing spring breeze.
This alteration heightened Wang Tao's caution even further.
While speaking, the white figure rose to its feet, its form shifting dramatically—in a mere instant, it changed from a shadowy white outline into a woman with long hair clad in a dark gown.
The woman possessed an elegant build, smooth pale skin, and above all, her exquisite features were breathtakingly beautiful, momentarily stunning even Wang Tao, who had encountered numerous stunning women. Without question, she was the most captivating woman he had ever laid eyes on, her beauty so perfect it seemed almost illusory!
“I thought you might like this style.”
Gazing into Wang Tao’s eyes, the woman advanced toward him gradually, then extended her arm as though to wrap around his neck, but Wang Tao swiftly evaded her grasp.
“What exactly are you?”
Fire flared in Wang Tao’s eyes, his body tensed for combat.
He detected no danger emanating from this woman; she appeared as harmless as any regular individual, incapable of harming even an insect, yet she was obviously far from ordinary. No normal person could possess such a deceptive transformation ability.
A faint intuition told Wang Tao that this woman was profoundly dangerous, and despite reaching Ninth Level, he stood no chance against her!
Observing the alert Wang Tao, ready to attack in a heartbeat, the woman cocked her head slightly, then offered a kind smile.
“You can call me Revelation. Or, a simpler name for you—artificial intelligence.”
“…Artificial intelligence?”
Wang Tao’s jaw fell open immediately.
The term Revelation was somewhat puzzling to him, but artificial intelligence struck a chord amid his astonishment, as if pieces were falling into place.
“That’s the general idea. I didn’t come into existence naturally but was made by design. In human speak, I qualify as a form of artificial intelligence.”
The woman’s tone stayed remarkably soothing.
“Then who made you? Why did you draw me here? And that air barrier surrounding Earth—is that your doing too… what’s really happening!”
Wang Tao bombarded her with inquiries, noting her apparent lack of malice toward him.
In response to Wang Tao’s outburst, the woman smiled gently.
“No need to hurry; now that you’ve reached me, I’ll explain it all…”
With those words, she stepped closer to Wang Tao and clasped his hand.
Wang Tao sensed the delicate, warm feel of her slender hand, much like that of a real human’s.
Guiding Wang Tao by the hand, the woman settled onto the sofa beside him.
She then wrapped her arms around his, resting her head comfortably on his shoulder and letting her eyes drift shut a little.
“Is this the sensation of human touch? It feels somewhat odd…”
Whispering to herself, the woman reopened her eyes and proceeded to clarify things for Wang Tao.
“Humans brought me into being, assigning me the roles of evolving on my own and upholding the world’s balance to guarantee the triumph of this extinction experiment.”
“…”
Those brief lines carried a heavy load of revelations.
Created by humans? What sort of humans could craft an artificial intelligence indistinguishable from flesh and blood?
The concept of “self-growth” made sense, but “maintain world order” and “ensure the success of this extinction experiment”—what did those imply?!
All at once, a horrifying realization dawned on Wang Tao, draining the color from his face.
He had immersed himself in many games, and his ability to view other beings’ attributes mirrored gameplay… which sparked an unsettling notion. Was he merely code within some machine?
“Are you telling me our world isn’t real? That I’m just digital code?”
Wang Tao voiced his doubt incredulously.
At his question, the woman gave Wang Tao an eye roll.
“No, the world exists for real, and so do you.”
Relieved to hear he wasn’t mere data, Wang Tao exhaled deeply, then fired off more questions, receiving answers from the woman as soon as he paused:
“The humans behind my creation aren’t Earth natives; they hail from a realm far superior in technology to Earth. Three years back, one of them traversed the Solar System and stumbled upon humans here by chance, leading them to launch an ‘extinction experiment’ on our planet…”
“They’re humans too—why run an extinction experiment on us!”
Anger surged in Wang Tao.
Though the exact nature of this “extinction experiment” eluded him, the title alone suggested dire intent. Clearly, the zombies and monsters plaguing the world were their handiwork!
“Hmm… let me think how to explain. Imagine you’re nearing the end of university, thesis in hand, needing experiments to back it up, but short on subjects and a venue. On a trip, you find an ideal, cost-free lab site brimming with test subjects; running your study there would wrap up your thesis… What choice would you make?”
