Apocalypse: I Build A Doomsday Train Chapter 1401 543: Endgame (Grand Finale) (Part 4)
Previously on Apocalypse: I Build A Doomsday Train...
Everyone's gaze shifted from the Planet Titan with its War God-like demeanor, filled with a sense of sorrow.
"Lin Xian!"
"Captain Lin!"
"Captain Lin..."
"Captain Lin!!"
"Brother Lin."
"Lin."
...
The sky fell, the pallor of the eternal day swallowed by ink-like darkness, the blizzard suddenly ceased, ice crystals suspended in the air, as if time had frozen.
Kunlun City lay prostrate on the tundra, the Xuanwu Giant Wall like the spine of a dragon corpse, twisted alloy armor plates curling, with frozen blood cascading down from the fractures, the Thunder God's Hammer Electromagnetic Cannon Array atop the wall toppled askew, the barrels embedded in the pile of corpses as though rusted crosses marking a grave.
The world was dead silent.
This ultimate human fortress fell on the seventeenth day of its stand, as civilization entered its burial period.
Beneath the wall, corpses piled into undulating hills, millions of interstellar army's power armor corroded with acid eating honeycomb-like holes, frost of terror forming under facemasks, the blood river had long frozen, etching a winding dark red ravine in the extreme cold, mixing with melted ice water into a vast crimson glaze plain.
On the tundra, thousands of starship wreckages lay scattered, the fires long extinguished.
In the distance on the horizon, the remnants of a Planet Titan stood as a monument of annihilation.
The god-like mechanical body was half-kneeling on the ground, its mountain-like spine torn open, revealing the internally melted Star Dust Furnace, cooling liquids congealing into hundred-meter-long icicles, hanging like tears.
The wind swept up rust-colored snow foam, weaving through the hollow skull of the Titan, sobbing like a dirge.
No crying, no calls for help, only absolute void.
Woo!
A silver, spherical flying device skimmed swiftly across the tundra, like the only shining star in the darkness, continually weaving through the endless Abnormal Body and human corpses, flying towards the wreckage of the Planet Titan.
The sphere moved quickly, encountering almost no wind resistance, reaching the snowfield beneath the Titan in a few seconds, then the silver sphere emitted a jet stream, blowing open a patch of snow and revealing a buried body beneath.
Chu Yan's mechanical body was torn into three parts, her frozen face still gazing skyward, only her two arms remained connected to the upper torso by a few wires.
The silver sphere flew quickly, shot a laser to cut open Chu Yan's skull, extracting a piece of black unknown metal sphere from inside, then flew not far away.
Plod, plod.
Leather shoes made crisp sounds on the hard tundra, as a graceful figure slowly emerged from the wind and snow.
Hua Xiaoling, with hands in her pockets, calmly gazed towards the direction not far from Chu Yan's body, and spoke:
"Your vitality surpasses my expectations, as a human, to accomplish such a feat, I admire you greatly."
Hiss...
Snow cascaded from a heap, and a figure wearing a half-damaged power armor hobbled out, the broken armor barely sustaining his body temperature.
He walked to Chu Yan's body, raised a hand to deactivate the power armor, and the sparking wreckage incessantly clattered, tumbling to the ground, as the energy lights flickered a few times before disappearing entirely.
"I also admire you, the way you act as if you've made such huge contributions to humanity, despite knowing you can't survive yourself."
At that moment, Lin Xian's left leg was almost burnt to charcoal, half of his face marred with large burn scars, standing there emaciated, like a dying scarecrow.
"Life has no meaning whatsoever."
Hua Xiaoling said calmly, "If you must say so, then it is only the self-examination before your death and how continued civilization judges it."
Lin Xian looked at her: "Do you believe that what you have done continues another human civilization?"
"I am not that grand, I merely contributed what we low-dimensional humans should contribute to history," Hua Xiaoling said, "The destruction of an anthill doesn't affect the extinction of ants, you should understand this truth very well."
Lin Xian smiled lightly: "This is actually precisely the fallacy you as a genetic scientist have fallen into."
"Fallacy?"
"Yes, having an emotional recognition of one's kin is something ordinary people have, and as a genetic scientist, you should be more aware than anyone else, that those who have crossed time, fundamentally, should be considered a foreign civilization."
"Why then would a foreign civilization send us aid?" Hua Xiaoling asked in return.
"Because if they do not provide us aid, there would be no Foundation, no Starship Technology, no Chu Zhaonan's Vanguard Plan, and certainly no existence of high-dimensional humans."
"This is a time paradox."
"Indeed, it is a time paradox," Lin Xian replied.
"I completely understand everything the Phoenix Society has done, but there are some matters that surpass human comprehension," Hua Xiaoling took a deep breath:
"For us, this is not a superficial disaster, nor is it a fate where all humanity, united, struggle, could achieve victory. Standing from this emotional weight, we are very fortunate to have chosen you as the operator to create protons; you, and those who have died, have vividly displayed the excellent qualities of the human race in the face of this calamity, but I must tell you, to the Tower People or the high-dimensional humans, they cannot perceive nor comprehend this."
Upon hearing this, Lin Xian looked seriously into the wind and snow beneath the darkness: "Then... how does this relate to stopping us from fleeing the Heavenly Veil?"
Hua Xiaoling looked at Lin Xian: "This is an order."
"But we still escaped."
Hua Xiaoling's eyes dimmed slightly, saying softly, "We did not."
