Lin Xian realizes the Black Gear is counting down to an unknown event. He frantically tries to understand its connection to his past interactions with Chen Yanshu and the loss of contact with Grace at South Heavenly Gate seems to confirm his fears. As the countdown nears zero, Lin Xian attempts to re-establish a connection to a crucial item, contemplating his next move.
"Grace." His voice was raised this time. [I am here.] A soft voice, as if muffled by layers of cotton, resonated within Lin Xian’s mind. It wasn’t an issue with Grace’s tone but rather a thick mist enveloping the voice and their connection. Lin Xian felt a jolt upon hearing Grace, yet no joy accompanied it. He asked directly, "Can you reach Chu Yan?" [Miss Chu Yan attempted to contact you via consciousness link 13 minutes ago. The Phoenix Society has a crucial message for you.] "What is it?" [The Phoenix Society’s Star Abyss Center has recently faced multiple infiltration attempts. The Nightwalker Organization and the North American United Front have dispatched reconnaissance teams, uncovering the Descent Faction's plot to assassinate Chu Yan, aiming to disrupt the Phoenix Society's control over the South Heavenly Gate. However, the Phoenix Society's defenses are robust and have not been significantly impacted. Commander Ye Lan of the Phoenix Society wishes for me to relay a swift message to you: The South Heavenly Gate serves as a deterrent not just in terms of terrestrial firepower, but also possesses a factor far more menacing to the Dark Civilization.] "I suspected as much, but I am in a difficult situation right now, possibly with little time left..." [Another message has been received: an infiltrator from the Descent Faction within the Phoenix Society reported that the faction received an order to eliminate both you and Miss Chu Yan. The latest intelligence indicates this order has been secretly rescinded. However, it appears not all elements within the Descent Faction have acknowledged this new directive, meaning the threat against you may persist.] Lin Xian’s gaze sharpened at this revelation. He immediately examined the black gear in his hand, a perplexing question arising. "Is this Taboo Item truly something I acquired?" ... On a vast island in the Pacific Ocean, amidst semi-bedrock mountains, stands a colossal cluster of metal bases, appearing as an integrated apparatus within the island itself. Outside this metallic complex, numerous drones hover like a submerged school of fish, their metallic bodies catching the light as they maintain a low profile. Holographic screens displaying gene chain models drift across the walls. Within and around the base, a significant contingent of guards clad in Power Armor forms a disciplined phalanx, both male and female, all engaged in methodical patrols. A patrol squad enters one of the metal-walled structures. The interior, however, presents a stark contrast to the rocky exterior; it resembles a sprawling, natural forest. Mosses sprout from the joints in the metal, enveloping bonsai trees maintained by an automated irrigation system. The diverse array of plants and trees intermingle, creating the illusion of a hidden sanctuary. In a brightly lit, circular chamber, devoid of desks or windows, the walls are densely packed with honeycomb-like soundproofing material. Within this environment, ambient noise is nonexistent; one can distinctly perceive the rhythm of their own heartbeat and the flow of blood. The door opens silently, and Chen Yanshu, dressed in a casual jacket, steps inside. After the door seals shut behind him, even the sound of his footsteps fades away. He observes the woman standing in the center of the room’s illumination, pausing at a distance until she opens her eyes from a state of silent contemplation before speaking. "Time is of the essence." His tone carries a subtle urgency, yet his words don’t reverberate in the chamber, contributing to an intensely silent and unnerving atmosphere. The woman turns, her short hair framing a stern face, her expression calm yet inscrutable. She wears a trench coat. Hua Xiaoling. "I’ve told you, your actions are contrary to the Master’s will – foolish and without benefit." "Hmph, spare me." Chen Yanshu’s expression darkens. "Human cunning is a trait only we humans comprehend; the most direct method to threaten the Master is through elimination. You will soon realize the depth of my loyalty to the Master's descent." Hua Xiaoling offers a slight smile upon hearing this, her voice steady as she replies, "Human cunning is known only to humans, but the Master’s will is known only to the Master. What you perceive as a threat might not even register for the Master, but your foolishness is undeniably present. Do you genuinely believe severing Lin Xian's connection to the Taboo Item with a black gear is sufficient to resolve the issue, or do you perhaps think the South Heavenly Gate is the true adversary?" Chen Yanshu's eyes flicker as he responds with cold detachment, "I understand the Master's will better than you do, and my interpretation is my own. Lin Xian, the Sword Holder, the South Heavenly Gate—removing any one of these three elements facilitates the Master's descent. Your experiments or philosophical musings hold no interest for me; our Holy Revelation remains focused solely on the dominion of power."

Hua Xiaoling turned away with an indifferent air. "You're underestimating Lin Xian, and perhaps, you're also underestimating the Phoenix Society. Chen Yanshu, that Silver Pocket Watch and the Black Gear are your two ultimate trump cards for survival, the very bedrock upon which your Holy Revelation is built. Are you not worried about never returning after handing them over to Lin Xian?"

"Don't fret about it." Chen Yanshu let out a scoff through his nose. "The Black Gear can traverse the Star Abyss Dimension, but its greatest drawback is that without my Silver Pocket Watch to accompany it, it guarantees certain death. I only need to re-adjust its containment position. Wait a few more minutes, and I'll have people retrieve the sword holder's body for you... or perhaps, it won't be found."

"Is that so?" Hua Xiaoling tilted her head slightly, a subtle smile playing on her lips. "Then I shall patiently await your good news."
