Qin Sheng awakes to find herself alive after suffering a fatal betrayal by her sister, Qin Churou. She realizes she has been reborn in the past, living in the dilapidated home where she spent seventeen miserable years with the Feng family. As she processes this return to her traumatic reality, she is forced to prepare for her departure back to the Qin family, while enduring fresh abuse from Shen Mei.

While Shen Mei was busy berating her, she reached out to twist Qin Sheng’s arm, only for Qin Sheng to deliver a sharp, icy glare. Caught off guard by the intensity, Shen Mei recoiled in fear and pulled her hand back.

She frowned, her indignation rising. Had this Qin Sheng truly become so emboldened as to rebel against the heavens?

Pointing a trembling finger at the girl, she began to curse again with renewed fervor.

A brief flash of irritation crossed Qin Sheng’s eyes. With a swift movement, she seized Shen Mei’s middle finger and applied pressure, stating coldly, “You have lost the right to berate me.”

Overcome by a surge of pain, Shen Mei’s face contorted as she shrieked, “You wretched child, do you intend to rebel? Do not think that simply because you bear the title of the Qin family’s young miss, I lack the authority to discipline you.”

The shrill cry was deafening. Qin Sheng cleared her ear with a dismissive gesture and released her grip.

Leaning in, she whispered with a faint, chilling laugh right against Shen Mei’s ear, “Do not fret. I shall settle every single debt I owe to you and your precious daughter for the way your household has treated me throughout the years.”

Having finished her warning, she retrieved a piece of candy, meticulously unwrapped it, popped the sweet into her mouth, and climbed into the waiting vehicle.

“You ungrateful brat, you really have lost your mind, haven't you! I raised you all these years, yet this is how you repay me? If it weren't for my intervention, you would have ended up in some godforsaken place long ago.” Stunned by such audacity, Shen Mei finally snapped back to reality, erupting into another flurry of insults as spit flew from her lips.

“Drive.”

Qin Sheng gave the command. She was long accustomed to Shen Mei’s verbal and physical abuse. It was only after she had been retrieved that she understood why her parents harbored such hatred; she was never their biological child. Her identity had been swapped with Qin Churou’s. While Qin Churou flourished in the luxury of the Qin family name, Qin Sheng had suffered in the countryside. Upon her return, her so-called biological parents treated Qin Churou as if she were their only true child. It was truly pathetic that she had once groveled for a morsel of affection, desperately clinging to even the smallest scraps of warmth Qin Churou chose to toss her way.

As Qin Sheng sat in the car, watching the landscape fly past the window, a subtle smile played on her lips, her eyes cold and distant.

That cycle of misery was finished. Never again would she be deceived by such a hollow facade of family warmth. ‘Qin Churou, I have returned.’

Upon arriving at the Qin residence, the entire family was gathered for dinner. Silence descended upon the group the moment the butler led Qin Sheng inside.

Lin Shuya scrutinized Qin Sheng, her brow knotting in disapproval at the girl’s choice of attire.

“Sister.”

Qin Churou was the first to break the tension, plastering a warm smile on her face. She set down her chopsticks and hurried over to approach Qin Sheng with forced intimacy, attempting to link arms. Qin Sheng pulled away instantly, her refusal sharp and unmistakable.

Though Qin Churou stiffened, she quickly masked her reaction. “Sister, you must be famished. Do come and join us for dinner.”

Turning to the servants, she commanded, “Prepare an extra set regarding bowls and chopsticks for my sister.”

Qin Sheng swept a glance over the dining table, noting that they had clearly forgotten her return entirely. A flicker of mockery appeared in her eyes as she walked over and pulled out a chair.

Qin Churou placed a piece of meat into Qin Sheng’s bowl. “Sister, eat heartily. I imagine it is rare for you to have access to such fine meals in the countryside.”

Qin Hai joined in, adding, “Sheng’er, this is not the backwater village you are used to. You must acclimate yourself to the lifestyle here in H City as quickly as possible.”

Qin Hai held no real affection for this daughter he had only recently brought home; he viewed her merely as a tool to be wed into a family of equal standing to bolster the Qin family’s influence. His eyes were filled with blatant disdain, as he had never expected the girl from the countryside to amount to anything of consequence.

Ignoring the hypocritical display from the father-daughter duo, Qin Sheng frowned at the food in her bowl. She pushed the dish aside, rose from her seat, and walked toward the kitchen to fetch her own clean bowl.
