Blayn and Esdeath encountered a swarm of Danger Beasts. Esdeath effortlessly dispatched a large fish-like beast, while Blayn decided to fight without fully relying on his Kamui, instead crafting a weapon from a beast's tooth. He successfully defeated two more beasts, a plant-type and a mantis-like one, before his makeshift weapon broke.

Swiftly, Blayn dealt with the remaining Danger Beasts.

These creatures, classified as Level 3 and 4, were indeed formidable monsters that presented a considerable danger to the common folk of the Empire. Such was the reason for their designation as "Danger Beasts."

Yet, for Blayn, their extermination was a simple feat.

And this was merely his "base stats" without even activating the Dual Kamui Dōjutsu. His capabilities could be further augmented.

[System Points: 10]

Following this encounter, Blayn had amassed a total of 10 System Points. Without delay, he accessed the System Shop.

After a brief period of deliberation, Blayn determined the allocation of his points.

Ding! The Host has expended 6 System Points to acquire Constitution +6!

Ding! The Host has expended 2 System Points to acquire Strength +2!

Ding! The Host has expended 2 System Points to acquire Agility +2!

For the time being, Constitution was paramount. It was the primary determinant of his capacity to properly wield the Dual Kamui Dōjutsu.

This did not imply that Strength and Agility lacked value—both attributes were instrumental in refining his physical combat capabilities.

His body techniques established the foundation of his martial skill, while the Dual Kamui Dōjutsu dictated his ultimate potential.

Until he could command the Dual Kamui Dōjutsu with complete freedom, his physical techniques remained absolutely essential.

However, attaining mastery over the Dual Kamui Dōjutsu was far from straightforward.

For instance, Obito could only utilize Single Kamui proficiently due to his possession of Hashirama Cells. Kakashi, who received Obito’s Six Paths power, was granted merely a one-minute “trial” of Double Kamui. This suggests that Blayn’s Constitution would need to match, or even exceed, the potency of Hashirama Cells to employ Double Kamui without limitations. Even then, it remained a mere possibility.

“Clap, clap.”

Precisely at that moment, Blayn registered the sound of applause.

Esdeath was clapping as she regarded him. “A truly magnificent display. You possess considerable strength.”

“You are too kind,” Blayn responded with humility.

He had already perceived that Esdeath’s physical capabilities surpassed his own.

As one of the Empire’s esteemed generals, she was undeniably among the nation’s most potent warriors.

“Should you require coin, you should salvage the valuable components from those Danger Beasts. If not, then prepare yourself for dinner,” she stated, turning her attention to the fish-like Danger Beast she had already dismembered.

“...”

Blayn became momentarily silent.

He had absolutely no knowledge regarding which parts of a Danger Beast held value.

Having only recently transmigrated to this realm, he was completely penniless, making the acquisition of funds a necessity. He would have to solicit Esdeath’s guidance later.

By this juncture, Esdeath had already commenced the preparation of their meal. With practiced expertise, she fashioned makeshift skewers from branches, then carved a sizable portion of the fish into uniform pieces before threading them onto the skewers.

It was evident she intended to prepare grilled fish.

Blayn had intended to offer his assistance, but observing Esdeath’s swift and adept movements, he realized there was nothing he could usefully contribute.

At that instant, Esdeath cast him a glance and said, “Simply sit and take your ease. You rescued me earlier—consider this a small token of my gratitude.”

Blayn slightly shook his head and replied with candor, “No, the fault lies with me. I inadvertently roused that Special-Class Danger Beast, which precipitated your predicament.”

In his estimation, Esdeath owed him nothing. He had merely rectified a situation he himself had instigated.

“One action does not negate the other. Regardless of the preceding events, you still apprehended me,” Esdeath countered.

“...Very well.”

Blayn conceded to her logic.

Before long, Esdeath ignited the fire and commenced grilling the fish.

Her actions demonstrated such proficiency that it appeared as though she had performed this task innumerable times before.

Blayn and Esdeath remained seated beside the fire, awaiting the completion of the fish’s preparation.

“Here.”

Esdeath presented him with one of the first skewers of grilled fish.

“Thank you...”

Blayn accepted it but, by ingrained habit, employed his Mangekyō Sharingan’s acuity to scrutinize the fish for any anomalies before taking a bite.

Despite originating from a Danger Beast, the flesh proved to be remarkably more delectable than the fish he had consumed in his prior existence.

Within this world, numerous varieties of Danger Beasts could be transformed into exquisite culinary creations.

“How does it fare?” Esdeath inquired.

“It is exceptionally delicious,” Blayn affirmed with a serious mien.

Esdeath offered a subtle nod, appearing content with her culinary execution.

“From whence do you hail? Are you engaged in the hunting of Danger Beasts?” she inquired suddenly.

Blayn responded with alacrity, fabricating a persona for himself.

“I originate from a humble hamlet in the southern reaches of the Empire, yet it was recently obliterated by a Special-Class Danger Beast. As the sole survivor, I was compelled to wander.”

“I comprehend...””

Esdeath’s expression remained impassive, her voice devoid of any empathy whatsoever.

“The weak perish. It is simply the way of things. Only the strong endure.”

Her pronouncement, coupled with the icy detachment in her tone, sent a faint shiver down Blayn’s spine.

Despite the fact that his tale of the village and the Danger Beast was entirely concocted, Esdeath’s reaction felt unnervingly genuine.

A ruthless survival of the fittest?

Without a doubt… this woman posed a significant threat.

At that precise moment, Blayn silently categorized Esdeath as ‘a beautiful yet exceedingly perilous woman’—though he carefully concealed this assessment from his outward appearance.

“What do you say to this proposal?” Esdeath suddenly inquired, her hand resting upon her chest.

“Accompany me to the Imperial Capital. I shall make you my direct subordinate, thereby allowing you to bypass the conventional military enlistment procedure. You would instantly attain a position of influence, second only to a general.”

“Surely, that is far preferable to aimlessly wandering, wouldn’t you agree?”

“...”

Blayn paused for a beat in silence before replying, “I do intend to journey to the Imperial Capital, but I have no desire to be beholden to others.”

“You shall not be,” Esdeath reassured him. “You will serve solely under my command within my army, and I will afford you the greatest possible freedom. Even I must frequently depart the capital to quell outlying tribes and hunt Danger Beasts. Such a degree of autonomy should satisfy you, correct?”

“Very well.”

Blayn accepted Esdeath’s offer.

He possessed limited knowledge of this world thus far. Even were Esdeath not to extend this invitation, his ultimate destination would still be the Imperial Capital—the world’s most pivotal stage.

From that vantage point, he could gradually unravel the true nature of this realm.
