Guo Jiumin attempts to coerce Xia Chuyi into signing a contract by offering cooperation regarding Huo Shizhang. While Xia Chuyi stalls, Guo Jiumin receives news that excites him and leaves temporarily. He grants Xia Chuyi's request to see her sister, Xia Pan, who reveals that Mingming is coming to rescue them via bird calls. However, Xia Chuyi notices Xia Pan is hiding her hand and suspects she has been tortured, causing her anger.

While Guo Jiumin engaged in discussions for collaboration on one side, on the other, a move was being made against Xia Pan.

A fire of anger began to burn within Xia Chuyi's heart.

With this thought, Xia Chuyi pressed her lips together firmly and forcibly pulled Xia Pan’s hand away from behind her back.

At a single glance, several of Xia Pan’s fingertips were already a bloody mess, clearly the result of biting.

Xia Chuyi's fury intensified, and just as she was about to erupt, Xia Pan quickly interjected, "Sister, don't be angry, I bit myself!"

Hearing this, Xia Chuyi was taken aback for a moment.

"You bit yourself?" Xia Chuyi questioned, her brow furrowed. "Why?"

In response to Xia Chuyi's inquiry, Xia Pan, with a touch of embarrassment, lowered her head. "Sister, you spent a long time at the book exhibition. I was worried something might happen to you..."

"Over there, I was afraid Xiao Kong wouldn't be able to find us just by sensing our scent from the melon seed shells... So, I bit my finger to squeeze out some blood..."

"Xiao Kong is familiar with my scent. As long as it detects us nearby, it will definitely pinpoint our location!" Xia Pan's eyes gleamed as she elaborated.

"Panpan, you..." Upon hearing Xia Pan's explanation, Xia Chuyi felt a surge of sadness and pulled her into an embrace.

It was entirely her fault; she should have taken the risk and ventured out alone.

If she hadn't brought Panpan along, she wouldn't have been put in this situation and wouldn't have resorted to self-harm.

"Promise me, Panpan, that you won't do this again in the future," Xia Chuyi pleaded. "You must trust your sister; even if Xiao Kong can't find us, I have a way to get you out."

"Do you remember? Back at the human traffickers' hideout, it was me who got all of you out?"

Upon hearing this, Xia Pan nodded vigorously, her eyes shining. "I remember! I'll always remember, sister, you rescued us from a very dark place!"

"Mm, so you need to trust your sister," Xia Chuyi affirmed.

"Mm, I will!" Xia Pan readily agreed.

Nodding in response, Xia Chuyi then appeared to reach into her pocket, retrieved a packet of medicinal powder from her spatial storage, and applied it to Xia Pan’s wound.

Xia Pan accepted this without much comment, assuming it was something Xia Chuyi habitually carried.

Just as the medicine was being applied, faint bird calls could be heard from outside.

"Sister, it’s a signal for us to hide!" Xia Pan exclaimed immediately.

"Mm." Xia Chuyi patted Xia Pan's head. "Let's find something to barricade the door and conceal ourselves behind the cupboard."

Subsequently, Xia Chuyi guided Xia Pan, gently lifting a table to block the doorway, and then they both hid behind a bookshelf.

Soon, the sounds of battle cries and gunshots filled the air outside.

Hearing the commotion, Xia Chuyi quickly covered Xia Pan's ears.

After a period, the sounds outside gradually subsided.

It was evident that the conflict had concluded.

Logically, the individuals brought by Xia Ming—either the Ou Family or the Huo Family—should have emerged victorious.

After all, this was the Capital City; regardless of Guo Jiumin's cunning, he wouldn't have brought a significant force.

However, exercising caution, Xia Chuyi instructed Xia Pan to remain hidden behind the bookshelf, completely still.

Then, Xia Chuyi approached the door, shifted the table aside, and opened it a sliver to peer outside.

At that precise moment, the door suddenly swung open, nearly striking Xia Chuyi.

She stumbled backward several steps, but a pair of strong arms instantly enveloped her in an embrace.

"You..." Xia Chuyi intended to resist, but in the next second, recognizing the individual, she ceased her struggle. "Shiqian?"

The visitor was none other than Huo Shiqian!

It was indeed Huo Shiqian, who was supposedly stationed at the border and had been reported missing.
