Mrs. Ou expresses regret over adopting Xia Lian'er and her subsequent actions against Xia Chuyi. Xia Chuyi attempts to comfort her mother, asserting that Xia Lian'er's choices are a result of her own nature, not solely the fault of Mrs. Ou or Xia Chuyi's relationship with Huo Shiqian.

Capítulo 1294: Chapter 1293: Xiao Jingqi’s Suggestion

A person's disposition is formed through a fusion of their innate qualities and their upbringing.

In certain aspects, Xia Lianlian's fiery temperament mirrors that of the entire Xia family, and particularly Mother Xia's.

Consequently, Xia Chuyi reasoned that Lian'er's 'naughtiness' was largely an inherited trait.

This line of thought naturally led Xia Chuyi to contemplate Lian'er's child.

One could only hope that child would not resemble its mother, Lian'er, nor exhibit the same tendencies as the troublesome Xia family members.

Of course, the child's future development was beyond Xia Chuyi's control.

What currently occupied Xia Chuyi's mind was Lian'er herself—or more precisely, the forces operating behind Lian'er—and what further machinations they might devise.

“Mom, we’ll counter soldiers with generals and floods with earth,” Xia Chuyi attempted to soothe her mother. “In the current circumstances, our best course of action is to adopt a strategic waiting approach.”

Upon hearing Xia Chuyi’s words, Mrs. Ou nodded in agreement. “That is indeed all we can do…”

At that very moment, baby Huo Shiwu stirred, opening his tiny mouth and letting out a soft cry, “wah, wah, wah.”

“Oh, my dearest firstborn grandson, you’re awake?” Mrs. Ou’s attention was instantly diverted. She spoke tenderly, “Little Shiwu, are you hungry, or perhaps you need a change?”

Mrs. Ou promptly moved to pick up her grandson.

Huo Shiwu was generally a placid infant, typically only crying when he was hungry, or when he had soiled his diaper. Otherwise, he would remain peacefully asleep with his eyes closed.

“Mom, Little Shiwu just finished his meal not too long ago, so he likely isn’t hungry. It’s more probable that he needs his diaper changed,” Xia Chuyi informed her mother, observing Mrs. Ou’s interaction with the baby.

Hearing this, Mrs. Ou nodded and declared, “Mm, then I shall attend to our Little Shiwu’s diaper change!”

With that, Mrs. Ou’s focus shifted entirely away from the ongoing Lian'er situation.

It was Xiao Jingqi who appeared hesitant, as if wanting to say something but holding back.

“Jingqi, let’s step outside to talk. Once his diaper is changed, Shi Wu will likely return to sleep; it’s best not to disturb him,” Xia Chuyi suggested, intentionally guiding the conversation away.

Her true intention was to have a private conversation with Xiao Jingqi, away from her own mother, to prevent Mrs. Ou from becoming agitated again.

Once they were in a more secluded area, Xiao Jingqi spoke, “Senior, given the current climate… what if I were to request a transfer from the regiment commander and return to serve as your bodyguard once more?”

Hearing Xiao Jingqi’s proposal, Xia Chuyi appeared slightly taken aback. “Return to be my bodyguard?”

“Yes,” Xiao Jingqi affirmed with conviction. “Just as before, I will continue to serve as your bodyguard and ensure your personal safety.”

“After all, one never knows what Lian’er or the individuals backing her might attempt next,” Xiao Jingqi revealed her underlying concern.

However, after a moment’s consideration, Xia Chuyi responded, “No, I don't think that will be necessary…”

“There is an old saying: a thief may succeed a thousand times, but a guard cannot stand watch for a thousand days,” Xia Chuyi stated calmly. “If you were to return as my bodyguard every time there’s a disturbance, would you still be able to fulfill your duties within the army?”

Xia Chuyi gently shook her head and declared with resolve, “Although they operate in the shadows while we are in the open, we are still in the Capital City, and I am maintaining a state of vigilance…”

“If the individuals behind her genuinely intend to make a move, they will find it exceedingly difficult to succeed,” Xia Chuyi asserted with remarkable composure. “Furthermore, even without your presence, I typically have bodyguards accompanying me when I venture out.”

“But those other bodyguards aren’t as capable as I am!” Xiao Jingqi insisted, her eyes widening as she continued to advocate for her proposal. “I can ensure your protection around the clock!”

Xia Chuyi’s smile widened as she shook her head even more definitively. “Protect me twenty-four hours a day? I’m hardly a national treasure…”
