Xia Chuyi receives a surprising call from Xia Lianlian, who has apparently escaped from a mental hospital and traveled to the Capital City. Xia Lianlian claims she is with "your mom" and tries to persuade Xia Chuyi to acknowledge Zhao Chunxiao as his mother, warning him against hurting her feelings or being laughed at.

When Xia Chuyi’s question reached Xia Lianlian’s ears, the latter believed she had successfully fallen into a trap. Xia Lianlian responded, "It’s nothing significant, I simply believe the twist of fate that swapped us is a fated connection between our families."

"Therefore, we should have been like sisters, shouldn't we?" Xia Lianlian continued, "The matter involving the poison was my misstep."

"However, the poison I administered was not particularly potent, nor did I harbor serious malicious intent," Xia Lianlian explained, "So, can we put our past grievances behind us?"

Put past grievances behind them?

"Xia Lianlian, I suggest you regain your composure," Xia Chuyi stated with a frigid smile. "Furthermore, in my experiences, I have always been the one wronged, not you."

"What right do you possess to request that I let bygones be bygones?"

Was Xia Lianlian overestimating her standing, or had she lost her mind?

Hearing Xia Chuyi’s stern words, Xia Lianlian instantly fired back in anger, "Xia Chuyi, are you not being excessively petty?"

"I may have committed an error in judgment, but you are thriving now, aren't you?" Xia Lianlian declared with displeasure. "And when we were switched at birth, I was also a victim!"

"Besides, you weren't treated poorly by the Xia Family all those years; didn't your uncle care for you well?"

"As for me, I was raised in the Ou Family, but only as an adopted daughter!"

"Hmph, the Ou Family never truly accepted me as one of their own."

"Otherwise, why would they have cast me aside the moment you returned?"

By the conclusion of her statement, Xia Lianlian’s tone was tinged with indignation, having completely forgotten her own past misdeeds.

Xia Chuyi found Xia Lianlian’s perspective utterly baffling.

She shook her head, her expression hardening as she faced Xia Lianlian. "Xia Lianlian, do you only recall the slights against you, while disregarding the kindnesses shown to you?"

"Meanwhile, you are entirely unconcerned with the harm you have inflicted upon others?" Xia Chuyi’s voice grew noticeably colder.

"What are you implying? I did no such thing!" Xia Lianlian retorted, her voice rising in outrage. "Xia Chuyi, I will ask you one last time, are you truly unwilling to reconcile with me?"

"Reconcile?" Xia Chuyi let out a short, sharp laugh. "Xia Lianlian, what status do you hold? What authority do you have to demand reconciliation from me?"

"You..." A furious Xia Lianlian, on the other end of the line, exclaimed, "If that is your stance, then do not blame me for being ruthless if you are unyielding!"

With that, Xia Lianlian abruptly ended the call.

Hearing the dial tone, Xia Chuyi’s brow furrowed.

Where did Xia Lianlian find such audacity?

How dare she make a call specifically to threaten her?

Xia Chuyi was completely perplexed.

However, one certainty remained for Xia Chuyi: Xia Lianlian must have had ulterior motives for initiating this call.

And Xia Lianlian's sudden surge of confidence... Xia Chuyi harbored a growing suspicion.

Could someone be providing her with assistance?

Was Xia Lianlian being backed by someone?

After a moment of reflection, Xia Chuyi resolved to confide in her elder brother.

There were matters beyond her own capacity to fully investigate and comprehend.

"Xia Lianlian?" Upon hearing the name, Ou Jun’s expression immediately darkened. "What schemes is she concocting now?"

The Ou Family harbored a complex mix of emotions regarding Xia Lianlian.

After all, Xia Lianlian had resided within the Ou Family for many years, forging emotional bonds with them.

Yet, the warmth they once extended to her was now overshadowed by their considerable resentment.
