Previously on After Marrying the Officer...
"Chuyi!" Even with his daughter finally there, Ou ZhenTing brimmed with excitement yet hesitated to abandon his grandson.
Xia Chuyi grasped the situation perfectly.
Huo Shiqian was summoned by the doctor for help, and once Xia Chuyi lay comfortably on the bed, the nurse delivered the newborn.
"Miss Xia, take a look at your child," the doctor told Xia Chuyi, "It’s a very healthy baby boy."
Back in the delivery room, Xia Chuyi had drained all her strength, making this her initial glimpse of the infant.
The wrinkly newborn presented before Xia Chuyi left her in shock.
"Why... why is he so ugly?" Xia Chuyi burst out.
Everyone else: ...
"What did you say?" Ou ZhenTing snapped back first, telling his daughter, "Where is my precious grandson ugly? Check out this rosy little face, this thick head of hair, these long eyelashes, this nose, this little mouth... way better looking than his older uncles when they were young!"
The implicated Ou Cong: ...
Ou Jun, who had just rushed to the nursery: ...
"Chuyi, don’t mind how he looks now; this child looks exactly like you did when you were young. He’s sure to look as good as you in the future!" Ou ZhenTing assuredly said.
Xia Chuyi was at a loss for words: Had she looked this ugly as a baby?
Still, she wisely kept silent this time.
Huo Zhongcheng chimed in then, "Yes, the child looks good, quite similar to Shiqian when he was young."
"Still resembles Chuyi more." Ou ZhenTing shot back right away.
"Also resembles Shiqian," Huo Zhongcheng countered.
"Sons often look more like their moms!" Ou ZhenTing pressed on.
"Haha, they also resemble their dads too." Huo Zhongcheng laughed back.
Xia Chuyi: ...
As the two elders launched into their bizarre spat, Ou Cong at last approached to inspect the baby.
Good-looking or otherwise, Ou Cong had no clue.
Right now, Ou Cong simply felt downhearted.
Why a boy, of all things?
It was supposed to be a girl, obviously...
Ou Cong remained deeply reluctant.
At last, Ou Cong questioned the doctor, "Doctor, is there any chance the child’s gender was mistaken? Could ’she’ possibly be a girl?"
His words halted the debate instantly, silencing even the ugliness gripes.
Every eye in the room locked onto Ou Cong immediately.
"What did you say?" The obstetrician reacted quickest, barely believing what he heard, unsure if it was real.
"You asked me if it’s possible to have mistaken the child’s gender?" The obstetrician inquired in disbelief.
"Yes!" Ou Cong pressed on, ignoring the odd stares all around, "Doctor, could you take a closer look? Maybe it’s a girl? Girls are great, girls..."
Ou Cong got no further before Ou Jun clamped a hand over his mouth and hauled him away.
"Ahem." Witnessing that, the obstetrician cleared his throat awkwardly and announced, "Everyone, please step outside for a moment. I’ll teach the mother how to feed the infant the first milk."
The obstetrician worked to overlook the "oddity" and steer things back to normal.
"Alright, I’ll head out first." Huo Zhongcheng agreed promptly.
"Yes." Ou ZhenTing nodded, adding, "Perfect, I should have a good talk with my youngest son!"
This cheeky boy actually dared to scorn his precious grandson!
He definitely needs a stern lecture!
