After Marrying the Officer Chapter 1228: 1227: So Much Has Happened
Previously on After Marrying the Officer...
Hearing Xia Chuyi’s question, Jiang Fengqi gave a faint smile and replied, “Rest assured, there won’t be any issues. Europe’s medical care is outstanding.”
Though Jiang Fengqi’s statement avoided directly addressing Wang Zicheng’s condition.
Xia Chuyi had already picked up on the fact that something was truly amiss with Wang Zicheng’s health.
Xia Chuyi lightly creased her brows and gazed far off—toward Huo Shiqian and Wang Zicheng in conversation.
As she chatted with Jiang Fengqi, Huo Shiqian had approached Wang Zicheng for a talk.
This formed part of their earlier arrangement.
From the outside at that instant, Xia Chuyi couldn’t detect anything unusual about Wang Zicheng.
“What’s up?” Noticing her look, Jiang Fengqi traced her line of sight and inquired, “Something wrong?”
“Nothing.” Xia Chuyi quickly pulled back her eyes at his words and responded, “Just feeling a touch sentimental.”
“So much has occurred since our return from the US.”
These words prompted Jiang Fengqi to sigh as well, “Yeah, tons of events have unfolded.”
Yet neither elaborated on precisely what those “many things” entailed, merely sighing.
In the end, the group said their goodbyes to Jiang Fengqi and his companions.
Once they departed, the Jiang Family members, Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff, and Xia Chuyi with Huo Shiqian all headed off separately.
For her part, after bidding farewell to Jiang Shuqin, Xia Chuyi departed the airport leisurely alongside her husband.
While exiting the airport, Xia Chuyi gripped Huo Shiqian’s arm and questioned, “Did you check with Wang Zicheng earlier? What’s really going on with him?”
Huo Shiqian stayed composed at her query and answered, “He’s faking it.”
“Faking?” Xia Chuyi halted upon hearing that, knitting her brows as she pressed, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Your Medicinal Food proved effective for Wang Zicheng,” Huo Shiqian explained.
“Those supposed aftereffects? Wang Zicheng made them up.”
“He’s faking it?” Xia Chuyi felt deeply confused by this and asked, “Why on earth would he do that? And how did you spot it?”
Huo Shiqian shook his head, replying, “I didn’t spot it myself.”
With no actual aftereffects to begin with, how could Huo Shiqian have discerned it?
“He admitted it outright,” Huo Shiqian revealed steadily to Xia Chuyi. “When I asked about his condition, he confessed on his own.”
“He invented the whole aftereffects story himself. As for the motive…” Huo Shiqian shook his head once more and added, “He simply wants to whisk Jiang Fengqi out of Capital City.”
“Out of Capital City?” Xia Chuyi grew even more baffled at Huo Shiqian’s explanation. “Capital City’s their hometown—why drag her sister away?”
“Plus, even if they go now, won’t they come back eventually?” Xia Chuyi remarked, brow furrowed.
Huo Shiqian gently smoothed the wrinkles from his wife’s forehead and said, “No big deal. Wang Zicheng figures a trip to Europe will deepen their bond.”
At that, Xia Chuyi got it.
“Gotcha…” Xia Chuyi murmured. “Mr. Wang lacks confidence in his marriage to her sister.”
Even as she spoke, the furrows Huo Shiqian had just eased reformed on her forehead.
“Her sister’s already wed to him, though?” Xia Chuyi still couldn’t fathom Wang Zicheng’s scheme.
Being among the final ones to exit,
as the pair conversed while strolling from the airport, Xia Chuyi abruptly spotted a familiar silhouette.
“Brother Song?” Xia Chuyi called out in surprise.
Sure enough, the figure Xia Chuyi noticed was none other than the man they’d just discussed—Song Zhicheng.
