After Marrying the Officer Chapter 1224 - 1223: Quarreling Lovers’ Debate
Previously on After Marrying the Officer...
"Chuyi hasn’t dreamed of the baby at all, yet you, the uncle, suddenly claim to have one?" Jiang Shuqin shot back right away at Ou Cong’s dubious statement.
"You dreamed it, and it’s supposed to be spot-on? What, are you a fortune teller or some God Stick?" Jiang Shuqin couldn’t resist mocking Ou Cong.
"Hehe, it only shows my special bond with my darling granddaughter!" Ou Cong stayed completely unfazed, grinning broadly as he replied cheerfully.
Jiang Shuqin nearly laughed at his antics, rolled her eyes, and remarked: "Ou Er, you’re utterly shameless!"
Next, Ou Cong gave Jiang Shuqin a pat, thumped his chest, and assured her: "Just you wait, it’s bound to be a girl!"
"I’m correct, right, Chuyi?" Finishing with Jiang Shuqin, Ou Cong turned to Xia Chuyi with full confidence.
"Chuyi, boy or girl?" Jiang Shuqin asked quickly upon hearing this, adding, "Why not check with the doctor?"
"Boy or girl, so we know what gifts to get!" Jiang Shuqin continued, "Especially since if it’s a boy, this idiot Ou Cong could end up buying the wrong stuff..."
But before Jiang Shuqin could wrap up, Ou Cong cut in swiftly: "It’s absolutely a girl!"
He declared it with unwavering assurance.
Jiang Shuqin challenged Ou Cong: "And if it turns out to be a boy?"
Ou Cong shot back assuredly: "Girl!"
Jiang Shuqin pressed: "I mean, what if!"
Ou Cong insisted: "No what ifs."
Jiang Shuqin: "Doesn’t everyone face what ifs in life?
Ou Cong: "I trust my dream fully! Besides, aren’t girls far more adorable than boys?"
Jiang Shuqin arched a brow: "So you’re implying a boy from Chuyi wouldn’t be cute?"
"I never said that..." Ou Cong hurried to deny.
"Oh, but you did..." Jiang Shuqin fired back just as fast.
And so, right there in front of Xia Chuyi, the pair launched into their noisy bickering.
Xia Chuyi: ...
She was the pregnant mother, yet these two fought over it more fiercely than her.
"Enough!" Xia Chuyi called out abruptly, raising her hand to halt them, and sighed in exasperation, "Could you two... stop acting like the baby belongs to you and getting more thrilled than the actual expectant mom?"
"What’s that supposed to mean! We didn’t say the baby’s ours!" Jiang Shuqin’s eyes bulged wide, "Ou Cong’s simply overly hyped!"
Ou Cong chimed in at once: "As the uncle, how could I not be thrilled!"
They kept missing each other’s points entirely.
Xia Chuyi massaged her temples and turned to Xiao Jingqi nearby: "Jingqi, help me to a seat over there—I can’t stand their squabbling any longer."
Xiao Jingqi responded: "Sure."
With that, she promptly assisted Xia Chuyi to the side.
Good thing her parents were out today.
Otherwise, Second Young Master Ou’s chatter would’ve landed him another tongue-lashing for sure.
That would’ve made the Ou Mansion far more chaotic.
Witnessing Xia Chuyi’s reaction, Ou Cong and Jiang Shuqin at last ceased their quarrel.
"Alright, alright, Chuyi, we’ll hush now." Jiang Shuqin said quickly, "No big deal if Ou Cong picks the wrong gift."
"Kids can use just about anything regardless." Jiang Shuqin added with a resigned look, as though relying on Ou Cong was foolish.
At this sight, Xia Chuyi shook her head in helpless amusement.
She cast a look at Jiang Shuqin, pondering: Ou Cong’s unreliability as second brother isn’t news—why does she still put faith in him?
