After Marrying the Officer Chapter 1197 - 1196: Xia Chuyi, Always Hungry
Previously on After Marrying the Officer...
Following the example set by Uncle Xia’s acquaintance, Xia Chuyi and Chen Hai finalized an extensive contract to guarantee that their collaboration would remain mutually beneficial while preventing any breach of trust.
Furthermore, Xia Chuyi committed to assisting Xia Chengzong with the transition of management for the car fleet.
With these obligations resolved, Xia Chuyi prepared to purchase her return ticket to Beijing.
During this period, Mother Xia made it a point to visit Uncle Xia daily.
She offered numerous apologies and spoke at length, her primary goal being to manipulate Uncle Xia into favoring Xia Lianlian, insisting that she was his own blood relative.
Uncle Xia found Mother Xia’s persistent badgering completely exhausting.
"I have stated repeatedly that this topic requires no further discussion; Chuyi is my only niece," Uncle Xia reiterated with weary determination.
On the eve of Xia Chuyi's departure for Beijing, Mother Xia arrived with pastries in a desperate attempt to reconcile.
Uncle Xia pointedly ignored her presence.
At that precise moment, Aunt Xia returned home.
"Zhao Chunxiao?" Upon catching sight of Mother Xia, Aunt Xia’s expression darkened instantly, "What exactly are you doing here?"
"I, I..." Mother Xia stammered, clearly searching for an excuse.
"Enough of this, go home at once," Uncle Xia said with a heavy sigh, "Sister, if you persist in this behavior, do not blame me for cutting all ties with you as well."
"But... you..." Mother Xia faltered momentarily before declaring, "Fine, I will return tomorrow then."
Having delivered this parting shot, she departed.
"Zhao Minglang, what is going on here?" Aunt Xia immediately demanded of her husband the second the door closed.
"Sigh..." Uncle Xia exhaled, slowly detailing the situation to his wife.
"Are you telling me that Zhao Chunxiao has been coming here every day to beg you?" Aunt Xia was incensed by his explanation, "How could she be so thick-skinned?"
She gestured sharply toward Uncle Xia and snapped, "And you, why was I kept in the dark about this?"
Aunt Xia then grabbed the box of pastries from the table, fuming, "We have no need for gifts from someone like that; I am throwing them out right now."
"Uncle, Aunt, I am home!" Xia Chuyi announced as she stepped through the door.
The couple’s expressions turned rigid with surprise.
"Uncle, Aunt, is everything all right?" Noticing their strange demeanor, Xia Chuyi asked with concern, "Did something happen?"
She had arrived shortly after Aunt Xia.
Aunt Xia hadn't been home long, so surely no major incident could have occurred, right?
"Cough, cough, everything is fine, perfectly fine," Uncle Xia replied, "Just some trivial matters at the shop."
"Really?" Xia Chuyi tilted her head, clearly still harboring doubts.
At that moment, the intensity of her morning schedule left Xia Chuyi feeling ravenous.
She shook her head internally, struck by how quickly her appetite had increased lately.
Noticing the pastries currently in Aunt Xia’s hands, she beamed and said, "Aunt, were you worried I’d go hungry? Did you buy these specifically to feed me?"
Xia Chuyi couldn't help but feel that her aunt and uncle continued to coddle her like a small child.
Aunt Xia looked visibly flustered by the remark, but quickly pivoted to hide the truth, "Yes, I bought these for you... however, they don't look especially fresh, so let’s head inside to get a proper meal instead."
Believing her aunt was simply concerned that she would find the pastries unpalatable, she smiled and said, "It is perfectly fine, Aunt, I'll have a taste."
With that, she reached out toward the pastry box.
