The research institute utilizes captured prisoners of war for a variety of experiments. Diego and his brother Donato are among them, separated and forced into rooms with sick natives. Their survival depends on the native's condition, highlighting the harsh conditions and unknown purpose of their confinement.

A new research institute to be named Umbrella?

Garrett was unwilling, conflicted, and protested.

Garrett… rolling on the ground was not an option; after all, he was a level ten mage, and a little dignity was still necessary. However, this did not stop him from vehemently objecting:

"I don't want it!"

"Why not?"

"The name just sounds unlucky! It feels like it could explode at any moment and wipe out the entire research institute, along with the whole Eagle God’s Kingdom!"

"Where did you get that feeling?" Archmage Haines was stunned. Garrett quickly shut his mouth, turned his head, and cleared his thoughts:

He couldn’t possibly tell anyone that he was actually from another world and that this "Umbrella Corporation" thing was a reference from Resident Evil?

This was bound to be trouble! Especially in this world, where high-level mages had mastered the "Detect Thoughts" spell!

"Anyway, I just don’t like the name!" He resorted to being unreasonable:

"Isn’t it fine not to name it at all? It doesn’t need an extra name! In the entire New World, at least in the central part of the New World, if you mention the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research Institute, it's just me!"

"Alright, alright…" Archmage Haines placated him. Well, in the short term, there was indeed no rush to name it, and as for the future…

Among the necromancers taking over, as long as it was passed on long enough and by enough people, a nickname could also become a name!

Just like Garrett, the nickname "Plague Lord" was accepted by him over time, and he even prided himself on it…

The Archmage led his disciples, one at level eighteen, the other at level fifteen, throwing out independently operating skeletons, and checking each room with Lynn. Were the patients inside improving? Or deteriorating?

Were there signs of vomiting blood? Bleeding from the conjunctiva, gums, or other areas? Reduced urine output or anuria?

And for the war prisoners confined with the indigenous patients or viewing them through the bars, observe their condition. Was there fever? Headaches? Chills? What was their temperature?

For those who were ill, they were dragged out for careful identification: What exactly was the illness?

If they mixed up a common cold, fever, or inflammation from wounds, or anuria due to insufficient water supply with this infectious disease, Garrett would not just mock them, he would actually be furious!

While the necromancers worked hard on their research, Archmage Byerbo was approached by the Eagle God’s Kingdom. Strictly speaking, the Eagle God’s Kingdom found the mages and demanded that the request be reported layer by layer, all the way up to Archmage Byerbo:

"What? They demand a promise that after using the war prisoners, they must be returned? What if we don't return them?"

"If we don't return them…" The messenger was a level fifteen evocation mage, Isabel Rad, specializing in sound waves.

She belonged to a different faction, not a disciple of the Lord of Thunder. Therefore, Archmage Byerbo was polite to her, and she maintained a respectful attitude before the Archmage:

"If we don't return them, they hope to exchange these war prisoners for an equivalent amount of gold or other goods. They say… these war prisoners are to be used as sacrifices to the gods, and it's rare to capture so many foreign war prisoners, which is very important for the gods…”

Archmage Byerbo instinctively frowned. Then he stood up:

"I understand. I will handle this matter—it's time to have a talk with their gods."

He raised his hand slightly, and a flash of lightning struck the entrance of the research institute. In the light, Archmage Byerbo’s figure appeared, looking around before accurately finding Garrett:

"Little Garrett, would you be interested in coming with me to have a talk with their gods?"

"I—" Garrett, with a stack of documents on his left and a pile of records on his right, was sweating profusely from his work. Just as he was about to respond "I really don't have time," Lynn, also busy, nudged him lightly:

"Go, I can handle things here. It’s always good to see more."

Archmage Byerbo nodded slightly to the necromancer. Then, he grabbed Garrett and made a sweeping motion with his left hand.

An elliptical mirror formed of lightning appeared quietly. With a gentle pull, the elliptical mirror opened from both sides, revealing a portal:

"Let's go!"

With a step forward, they were now standing on the first step in front of the pyramid. Archmage Byerbo looked up at the top of the pyramid, then at the approaching Tlatoani:

"Regarding the matter of live sacrifices, I need to discuss it with you."

They were immediately invited into the temple, to the most spacious hall, and seated as guests of honor beneath the statue of the god.

Garrett sat below his senior brother, holding a drink made from cactus juice mixed with mint water, glancing around at the obsidian statue slightly bowing its head, with the sunlight stones in its eyes glimmering as if the god was staring at them:

In fact, it might not be "as if" but actually true. Garrett focused and felt a different kind of energy fluctuation from the statue. Beside him, his senior brother went straight to the point:

"I came here specifically to ask for guidance. May I ask, why do the Eagle God and the Serpent God need live human sacrifices for blood offerings?"

"Because the gods need power!" Tlatoani replied matter-of-factly:

"Without blood offerings, where would their power come from? Just like this time, the great Eagle God devoured the strength of the White Ghost’s strongman and gained a lot of power… without regular offerings, how can the gods protect us or lead us in battle?"

Archmage Byerbo nodded slightly. He had observed the blood offering process the entire time, and the airship had been scanning the area—the indigenous gods were not sensitive to the mages' power. The conclusion was that the Eagle God’s power indeed increased.

But this increase was not stable. Just like a person, being full gives strength, but whether it turns into muscle or strengthens bones is another matter…

Garrett, however, could not hold back. The gods he had seen absorbed power in various ways; Elder Tapros’s lessons also mentioned that blood offerings were a very low-level method with very, very low energy utilization efficiency…

"Can't you absorb power in other ways?" He glanced at his senior brother, received a nod of approval, and asked his question:

"For example, absorbing the power of the people's faith? The people's worship and offerings should provide enough power for the gods, right?"

"Of course, that's possible." Tlatoani nodded calmly:

"The people of the Eagle God’s Kingdom are devout followers of the Eagle God and the Serpent God… but, esteemed envoy, you must know that in different circumstances, the faith and worship the people can offer are limited."

Garrett naturally understood this. That’s why rituals were needed… in specific environments, with music, hymns, and even the architecture and lighting of the church, people's hearts were more easily unified, and the power of faith was more likely to rise.

How well did the two gods of the Eagle God’s Kingdom conduct their rituals?

"Moreover, each time a live sacrifice is performed, it is when the people’s worship reaches its peak…"

Uh… okay.

Garrett had a list of sacrificial rituals one to six in mind, ready to offer to the two gods. Of course, whether to provide them or not needed his senior brother’s approval:

If these two gods obtained advanced development methods and evolved to level nineteen or even legendary status, would it disrupt the balance of power? Could it possibly involve part of the council’s forces?

However, hearing Tlatoani’s explanation, he silently packed up the ritual ideas and listened as Archmage Byerbo asked the second question:

"An individual’s faith is limited, so why not increase the population? For instance, if the basin’s population grows from three million to six million, wouldn’t the gods’ power double? Why bother with blood sacrifices?"

"But the basin can’t support that many people!"

Tlatoani blurted out. As the spokesperson, leader, and wise man of the Eagle God’s Kingdom, he was well aware of the population capacity of this basin.

He turned his gaze to the square outside the temple and then to the shimmering lake in the distance:

"Although the basin is large, the soil near the mountains is barren, water is scarce during the dry season, and floods during the rainy season. Only a small area near the lake and the floating fields in the lake can grow food. Whether the floating fields can yield crops depends on whether the rainy season arrives half a month or a month late each year."

"Then bring the people from the lowlands under your rule!" Garrett blurted out:

"There are so many people in the lowlands! Instead of letting them rebel from time to time, it’s better to rule them and have them worship the gods! Isn’t faith still faith, whether it’s from the lowlands or not?"

Gods absorbing faith had no territorial boundaries! Of course, like the Radiant Lord’s divine kingdom, there might be issues with long-distance faith transfer, but for the small Eagle God’s Kingdom, there was no need to worry about that!

Archmage Byerbo glanced at his junior brother with a slight smile. Tlatoani was already shaking his head:

"Going to the lowlands, whether for conquest or plunder, would consume the gods' power. Without the Eagle God’s strength, there’s no way to attack, and even the White Eagle

Warriors can’t fly high; without the Serpent God’s protection, the warriors would bring back a great plague when they return!"

So, it’s a matter of offense and defense…

The two brothers exchanged glances. Archmage Byerbo took over the conversation:

"If it’s an issue of offensive power, the council can ally with the Eagle God’s Kingdom to conquer the surrounding areas and share the spoils. If it’s a concern about the plague…”

He looked at Garrett. Garrett lifted his head and responded clearly:

"I’m already researching it. There will be preliminary results within a month."
