Garrett struggles to train his oak staff, which attacks him relentlessly until he pins it down. While the others find the scene amusing, Elder Fahim notices Garrett's progress in communication. Fahim then guides Garrett to meditate with an ancient tree to improve his connection with the staff. Later, Garrett and Fahim successfully treat several animals with a new cancer-fighting method, but Garrett is exhausted. Their next test subject, a level 16 tiger, proves too powerful for Garrett's mental energy to penetrate.

Garrett’s method of healing emphasizes precision. If one unit of force is enough, he would never use two; if two units suffice, he would consider it a loss to use two and a half.

This delicate control relies on two key aspects. The first is a solid foundation of medical knowledge, encompassing an understanding of human physiology and pathology—a foundation built over seven years of integrated study and more than a decade of medical practice.

The second aspect is the coverage of his mental energy, meticulously penetrating deep into the patient's body, guiding the healing power through it.

This precision prevents him from being like most healers nowadays, where seventy to eighty percent of their healing power is wasted like a scattered rainstorm. Garrett’s healing power alone can easily match that of five or ten others of the same level.

However, to achieve this level of precision, the observation with mental energy must be sharp. If it fails to penetrate, it's like a fighter jet losing its navigation, or a missile’s radar being jammed—flying around aimlessly.

Previously, Garrett had always relied on this approach, successfully treating low-level patients without fail. However, he hit a snag when dealing with this tiger:

A level 16 high-tier magical beast, even when sick, its energy churned like boiling lava under its fur. As soon as Garrett's mental energy covered it, every single hair on the beast stood up like steel needles.

"Relax! Relax!" Garrett was sweating, raising his hand to make calming gestures, gently stroking the tiger’s head from a distance.

"I'm here to heal you! I’m not here to harm you! Look, the elders are here too. If I meant you harm, they wouldn’t agree, right? Come on, relax a bit, let my mental energy in to take a look..."

The tiger snorted, lowering its head to rest on its front paws. Beside it, Anari Linga stroked the fur on its large head and laughed:

"He knew when you came; otherwise, he would have pounced on you long ago. But high-tier magical beasts always protect themselves unless they are near death, when their strength dissipates. Just asking him to relax won’t work."

Garrett glanced at her, remaining silent as he continued his work. One failure, two failures... after five or six consecutive failures, he finally turned to the elder, sighing in frustration:

"Elder, what should I do? If I can’t succeed, treating Fira and the others later will be even more difficult!"

With a difference of six levels, even Elder Fahim didn’t have any particularly good solutions. He rummaged through his collection, pulling out all the equipment that could enhance mental energy and gave them to Garrett to try again.

Soon, Garrett was fully equipped:

He wore a silver crown on his head, with thin silver leaves dangling and rustling, covered in countless intricate runes. Two large pearls curved down to press against his temples.

A necklace hung around his neck, with a wide chain from which gems dangled, draping across his chest and back.

Each hand had a bracelet, and two or three strings of beads, but that still wasn’t enough—Anari Linga took out her armlets and added them, so his arms were adorned brightly and stiffly.

He wore an emerald green robe with a brooch pinned on it, the gem as large as Garrett's thumb...

In short, he was dressed more elaborately and luxuriously than Cirilla at a banquet. Cirilla was eagerly eyeing the setup from the side; if Garrett weren't about to use it, she would have stripped off all the jewelry and cuddled it to sleep.

Once he was fully dressed, Elder Fahim cast a large number of enhancement spells on Garrett. Then, after setting up a magic array underfoot and lighting some magic incense, he instructed Garrett to try again:

"Communicate with nature, with the forest. Borrow the strength of nature, and slowly delve deeper. Don’t rush, don’t panic—take it step by step..."

Garrett gripped the oak staff in both hands, slowly closing his eyes as he called upon the power of the forest and nature. Since this was for healing, the oak staff didn’t resist and obediently lent its power.

This time, every possible buff had been applied. Garrett extended his mental energy with all his might. This time was much better than the last—like a gentle breeze, like a fine rain, it seeped beneath the tiger's fur.

It passed through the fur, the epidermis, the dermis, the subcutaneous tissue, and reached the muscles... superficial muscles, intermediate muscles, deep muscles...

"Ah!"

The tiger's muscles, as hard as steel, twitched slightly, and Garrett's mental energy was instantly bounced back.

"It’s still not working... still far from enough..." Garrett frowned:

"I’ve really tried my best..."

"Weren’t you the one who killed an 18th-level Sky Knight?" Anari Linga asked, puzzled. She and Elder Fahim had examined that Sky Knight's corpse and heard Garrett describe the battle:

"Didn’t your mental energy manage to penetrate then? If it worked at 18th level, why not at 15th level?"

"With that 18th-level one, my mental energy just had to touch the surface..." Garrett sighed in frustration:

"As long as it touched the surface, I could apply the relevant spells, and the Electrocardiogram Magic just had to stick to the surface... As for the subsequent attack, I didn’t have to hold back, and Cirilla had already broken through his defenses... This is different..."

This is a patient!

Not an enemy!

I can’t just beat him up, break his defenses, and then think about healing him!

"Do you want me to break his defenses first?" Cirilla popped her head out from behind the elder, raising her small fist and waving it with decorative flourish:

"Should I knock him out first?"

"Roar—"

The tiger roared at her. The deep, majestic roar echoed far and wide, and even though it was a sick tiger, the forest immediately fell silent—

The shrill chirping of cicadas, the croaking of tree frogs, the loud calls of howler monkeys, and the soft cries of fawns all vanished without a trace. It was as if the entire forest was paying homage to its king.

Cirilla, however, wasn’t the least bit scared. She laughed, making a face at the tiger. Garrett rubbed his temples:

"Cirilla, let’s not take that route yet. Let me think of another way... Elder, is there any other method?"

"Another method... the most reliable one would be for you to advance quickly. You’re currently at level 11, and your mental energy isn’t strong enough. Even advancing to level 13 or 14 wouldn’t be too difficult. When did you last advance?"

Garrett didn’t answer. Elder Fahim asked again, and only then did he whisper:

"A few months ago..."

"A few months?!"

"Not many months... just before we left the Eagle God’s Kingdom, right before we got here, I had just completed the advancement..."

Elder Fahim sighed, rubbing his forehead. The speed was simply too fast—at Garrett’s age, advancing this quickly almost seemed like cheating...

In fact, the elves on Yongju Island, especially many of the noble elves, relied on potions and spells to advance, without putting in any effort...

If Garrett hadn’t published so many high-quality papers;

If his spellcasting and healing weren’t so smooth and effortless, even able to cast spells beyond his level;

Especially, if he weren’t surrounded by the favor of nature and the world. Elder Fahim would almost have thought that Garrett was just like them, relying on potions to advance...

Even so, the advancement methods available to Elder Fahim were almost unusable on Garrett. Advancing this quickly had already destabilized Garrett’s foundation; he couldn’t handle any further forced advancements!

As he was now, he couldn’t even cast Shapeshifting properly, and couldn’t cast spells while in a transformed state!—Had he even memorized all the 6th-circle spells after advancing to level 11? Could he smoothly cast all the 6th-circle divine spells?

Don’t forcefully push to level 13, or he won’t even finish memorizing the 6th-circle spells!

"I’ll find you some books." Elder Fahim returned to his study and rummaged through it, eventually finding several thick books.

Some were bound in sheepskin, others in the hides of unknown beasts, some written on unknown leaves, and others sealed in stone or crystal. He piled them all in front of Garrett:

"These are books on methods of using mental energy. Read through them and practice accordingly. They might help. If it still doesn’t work, we’ll think of a new solution."

Garrett, holding this stack of books, dove into his room. As a legendary spellcaster, with deep accumulation and rich experience, Elder Fahim’s collection was incredibly extensive.

These books contained many mental energy usage methods and training techniques that Garrett hadn’t considered:

There was one method that involved pulling mental energy into fine threads, as fine as possible, and finding a way to drill them in;

Another involved cutting mental energy into segments, forming a sharp cone at the front, and firing it forward in a formation, quickly attempting to break through;

There was one that condensed mental energy into a spiral, like a screw, slowly twisting it inward bit by bit;

Another made mental energy vibrate to form specific waveforms, counteracting the opponent’s defensive power, allowing one to slip in...

Garrett was utterly absorbed in these books. Although there were many mental energy usage methods in the Thunder Horn’s

 secret library, he had previously felt his power was sufficient and hadn’t spent much time on this.

Moreover, the mages of Thunder Horn were mainly from the Evocation School, focusing on powerful, direct attacks, with mental energy aimed at sharpness, strength, penetration, and large-scale control. This wasn’t the subtlety and finesse Garrett needed...

He diligently studied Elder Fahim’s collection, reading book after book until his head spun and his mind was overwhelmed. Meanwhile, Elder Fahim, immersed in Garrett’s papers and books, also felt dizzy and fatigued:

Anatomical atlases!

Imaging atlases! X-rays! Ultrasound! CT scans! Various images representing various possibilities!

The various waveforms of an electrocardiogram, their meanings and corresponding symptoms!

Pathogen atlases of infectious diseases, penicillium, streptomyces, various cell observation atlases...

"Garrett, you said if I memorize these cellular atlases, I could use mental energy to lock onto... what was it... cancer cells." The elder, clutching an atlas, had his long white brows tangled together:

"Why can’t I still lock onto them?"

Maybe you can’t see what cancer cells look like?

Garrett was conflicted. The morphological characteristics of cancer cells, changes in cell shape, nuclear abnormalities, mitochondrial deformities, cytoskeleton disarray...

It’s a bit much to expect someone to notice all this under an optical microscope...

"Elder, don’t worry. Let me think... think about how to explain..."
