A Hospital in Another World? Chapter 1064: We Struck it Rich! Garrett, We're Rich!
Previously on A Hospital in Another World?...
The spell...
He awoke from the spell...
Garrett's face turned dark. Where's the anesthetist? What kind of job did they do?
Oh, right, the anesthetist is me... Never mind then...
This has never happened before! Previously, for low-intensity surgeries, local anesthesia plus hypnosis, and for high-intensity ones, I'd use the Calming Spell to ensure the patient slept through the whole procedure, never waking until the spell was lifted!
Come to think of it, I've never performed surgery independently for a high-level mage...
High-level knights don't have such high magic resistance, so the Calming Spell usually works just fine; but high-level mages, they've always had Archmage Belsa or other high-level healing mages by their side, handling the anesthesia...
So, in future surgeries, should I consider the recipient's magic resistance when applying anesthetic spells? —Does this mean I need to find a bunch of high-level mages to test on, or at least a bunch of high-level magical beasts?
Various thoughts flitted through Garrett's mind. Before he could sort them out, Cirilla had already stepped forward, eagerly raising her hand and looking at Garrett:
"Should I knock him out?"
Sisoyin: "..."
Garrett: "..."
No way!
That whole clubbing thing was just a joke! I didn't mean it literally!
"Ahem, how did you feel during the surgery? Did it hurt?"
Garrett asked Sisoyin seriously while swiftly casting a Cleansing Spell to clean the surface wounds (and the herbal paste) on his body, then pouring on Saint's Saline Solution...
"It didn't hurt... but it did feel a bit strange. Like... like a bunch of hands were flipping through my insides..."
Garrett sighed in relief. Thank goodness it didn't hurt, at least that's something. After finishing the debridement, he cast a [Detect Magic] spell to check for any foreign objects near the wound, then began applying the Healing Spell:
"Would you like a Calming Spell? The wounds on your shoulder and leg are quite troublesome... Or, you could focus your mind, don't resist, and I'll see if the Hypnosis Spell works..."
"Uh, let's go with the Hypnosis Spell. I'll cooperate... Hey, don't throw away all the herbal paste! It's expensive!"
"Expensive, my foot!" Garrett snapped at him, his hands not stopping as he cast another Cleansing Spell:
"If that paste stays on the wound, the leaves and roots will grow into your body when the Healing Spell takes effect. You happy with that?!"
He had become quite proficient in using this spell for debridement. Dust, dirt, and tiny stones embedded in the wound were all cleanly whisked away into the trash bin with a single swipe of the spell.
Remembering how in his previous life, debridement was done with tweezers and cotton balls, making him sweat profusely while the patient cried out in pain, he couldn't help but think:
Magic is just better!
"But... but..."
"No buts! No more buts! With the time you're wasting, I've already healed it!"
Ah, every time a surgeon sees a patient come in with a wound covered in Yunnan Baiyao powder, or worse, ashes or who knows what, the urge to slap someone is real.
If it's to stop the bleeding temporarily, for goodness' sake, use a tourniquet, tie a cloth near the heart end of the limb, or at least press down with clean gauze! If you can't find clean gauze, here's a sanitary napkin...
Of course, Garrett didn't deny that in this magical world, there were instant healing medicines. But still, clean the wound thoroughly before using the Healing Spell!
Snip, snip, snip. Cleaning the wound, reconnecting blood vessels, reconnecting muscles, healing the legs; cleaning the wound, pulling out the arrowhead, cleaning some more, then organizing the blood vessels, muscles, fascia, and skin.
As Aishe Moon Song paced impatiently, almost turning back into a black panther to scratch her claws on the Force Wall, the surgery room wall finally disappeared. Garrett waved them over, but before he could speak, he let out a huge yawn:
"It's done..."
"That's great! You're okay now!" Aishe Moon Song's eyes lit up as she rushed forward. She grabbed Sisoyin, inspecting him up and down, even circling him once before officially introducing him:
"This is Garrett Nordmark, an 11th-level Natural Servant, and an 11th-level mage... Garrett, stay awake!"
"I don't want to stay awake, I want to sleep..."
With a wave of his hand, the operating table was cleaned spotless, with all the blood, saline, muddy water, and broken branches disappearing. He swayed on his feet, almost falling onto the operating table:
Ugh, a long night of rushing, flying hundreds of miles on the Ancient Vine Bird, fighting battles after arriving, and then treating wounds... Just let me sleep, my head's buzzing, I can barely cast spells anymore...
"Alright, alright, go to sleep." Cirilla quickly waved her hand:
The operating table automatically lowered, turned into a bed with a pillow, and softened, while the shadowless lamp disappeared. The surroundings even darkened a bit, clearly a non-darkness spell was used, allowing Garrett to sleep undisturbed.
Aishe Moon Song: "..."
Sisoyin: "..."
Bernard: "...So, couldn't he just sleep in the Ancient Vine Bird?"
Garrett slept for over ten hours. When he finally staggered out of bed, one foot high, one foot low, and stepped out of the Ancient Vine Bird, the first thing he heard was Cirilla's loud shouting:
"We're rich! We're rich! —Garrett, you're awake! Come see, we're rich!"
Garrett quickly condensed a ball of cold water and dumped it over his head. As the water flowed over his hair and face, he followed up with a Cleansing Spell on himself:
Cleaning the eye gunk, the oil on his face, the bad breath, and plaque... Cirilla, you came too fast... Didn't even give me time to brush my teeth and wash my face...
But clearly, Cirilla hadn't noticed any of this. The Silver Dragon girl ran over, grabbed Garrett, and started pulling him forward:
"Garrett, look! So much gold! So much silver! So, so, so much—"
Garrett was dragged to an open space where he finally managed to stop. He looked up, and before him was a dazzling sight:
Hundreds of chests arranged in a neat formation. Each chest was open, the heavy wooden boxes filled with silver ingots reflecting the sunlight, making him squint;
In the center of the wooden box formation, a pile of a dozen or so chests was stacked into a small hill, with the lid of the topmost chest emitting a golden glow;
And in the very front of the formation, a Force Field Shield covered a bowl-shaped barrier, within which rubies, sapphires, tourmalines, pearls, and various other gemstones glittered.
Bernard, Apa, Mr. Hawthorn, and Lady Jasmine stood in a row beside these treasures, their eyes glazed over. Garrett could easily hear Mr. Hawthorn murmuring:
"Am I dreaming... Am I dreaming..."
Aishe Moon Song's expression was slightly more composed, but only just slightly. Only Sisoyin appeared unaffected by the gold and silver, his hands behind his back as he frequently looked towards the nearby village:
There, at the village entrance, a row of tall poles stood. Each pole had a motionless body hanging from it, with crows already trying to peck at them.
A little further away, hundreds of soldiers from the Old World huddled on the ground, trembling.
In another direction, a group of indigenous people with waxy yellow skin, visibly sunburnt with a red tinge, and deadened eyes had already begun going about their business. Drawing water, cooking, caring for mules...
"So, did we just rob a convoy transporting gold and silver?" Garrett muttered. Remembering how Sisoyin was being chased, he quickly corrected himself:
"No, this convoy was working while robbing the local people?"
"They robbed the indigenous people and assaulted a few of the local women." Hearing Garrett's question, Sisoyin approached and explained:
"I couldn't stand it and attacked them, but their leader chased after me... When they couldn't catch me, they threatened to kill all the indigenous people... If it weren't for your timely rescue..."
Garrett let out a long sigh.
What was the point?!
Seriously, what was the point of this convoy?!
They could have just passed through peacefully without causing trouble, and they would have been fine! But now look, the leaders are dead, the soldiers captured, and the gold and silver... uh...
"I don't care! These treasures are ours now!"
Cirilla declared loudly. She stretched out her arms, making a large circular motion in front of her:
"We've seized it, so it's ours! I'll take a share, Garrett will take a share, um..."
A clear look of reluctance crossed the Silver Dragon girl's face, and her voice lowered:
"Sister Moon Song should get a share, and this elf here should also get a share... After all, you were the first to take action, and you got seriously injured..."
Of course, how much everyone gets still needs to be discussed! After all, she and Garrett had worked hard flying the Ancient Vine Bird all night and did most of the fighting!
"I don't need these things." Aishe Moon Song quickly waved her hand with a smile. No way, asking a dragon, even a Silver Dragon, to share her wealth?
It's already astonishingly generous for her to politely
decline. If anyone actually took a silver coin from her, who knows what might happen! Besides, what use does a forest elf have for gold and silver?
Bury it under the roots of trees in the Bountiful Forest?
"I don't need it either. You've already saved my life." Sisoyin also declined. Before Cirilla could speak, he stepped forward and pointed at the soldiers and slaves:
"If you feel bad about taking this money, then please do me a favor—losing such a large fortune, these people, whether soldiers or slaves, will likely be killed when they return. Especially the slaves, they're innocent. What should we do with them?"
"Well..."
Cirilla quickly agreed. However, after only two words, she got stuck and turned to Garrett:
"Garrett, what should we do?"
"Besides the soldiers and slaves, there are also the indigenous people." Garrett was already frowning:
"With such a large sum lost, the Pelu Governorate won't let it go easily—I think we need to retreat a few hundred miles to ensure the enemy doesn't find them..."
