Garrett awakens from a deep meditative dream, where he experienced growth as a tree and flight as a magical bird. During his vision, he witnessed an elf being pursued and attacked by human knights. He alerts his companions, Aishe Moon Song and Cirilla, to the unfolding conflict and injury, convincing them to travel towards the distant danger.

Sisoyin was running for his life.

That human warrior leading the group was truly detestable. He had threatened Sisoyin with innocent native villagers and didn’t hesitate to lift his sword in their direction, his entire being emanating murderous intent.

If left unchecked, he would undoubtedly slaughter all those villagers!

A group of mere civilians, with only two low-level warriors, no spellcasters, and no powerful magical beasts—such a combination would be annihilated in an instant by that human warrior.

If he remained a bystander, Sisoyin could have easily ambushed these people in the jungle over several days, slowly driving them to their deaths. As a master of the jungle, even though his combat power wasn't on par with the human warrior, he had countless ways to attack them—sending venomous insects, driving poisonous snakes, tossing moss into their drinking water, or cultivating poisonous mushrooms where they foraged…

Give him a month, and he could rot all their bones within the jungle's embrace!

But Sisoyin couldn’t just stand by and watch those villagers be slaughtered. Even though they were just native villagers, even though they were merely humans, they were his friends, his comrades!

They trusted him, relied on him! Generation after generation, he had watched them grow up, get married, have children, and watched the new generation grow up as well.

When he patrolled the jungle, he would rest in their villages, drink from the water bowls offered by their women, and braid the children's hair, weaving golden, hard fruits into the ends.

Those children learned combat from him, learned medicine from him, learned how to listen to the sounds of nature, and how to live in harmony with animals and plants...

To just watch them be slaughtered?

Sisoyin would rather step forward himself. Step forward and stand at the front lines, drawing the strongest enemy away...

Run!

Run!!!

Clutching his wound, he ran with a limp. That human warrior was too powerful. Even though there were two trees between them, the sword light still extended and slashed him. If he hadn’t dodged in time, his left leg would have been severed!

Sisoyin narrowly avoided disaster at the last moment. He cast a healing spell on his leg, barely stopping the bleeding, but his left leg was no longer capable of exerting force. With no other option, he called upon nature, seeking cover as he leapt from one large tree to another—

Behind him, the crashing sound of falling trees pierced his heart like a thousand blades. Gritting his teeth, he turned and fired arrows, two feathers whizzing through the air, striking down an enemy with a scream.

That brief delay allowed the human swordsman to close the distance. Sisoyin’s short bow trembled as he fired three arrows in quick succession, aiming for the throat, chest, and side ribs. The swordsman slashed through two arrows and sidestepped the third, and then the emblem on his chest suddenly emitted a red light—

"Ah!" Sisoyin dodged with all his might, but the red light still grazed the outer side of his right arm. Unable to draw his bow anymore, he was left with no choice but to flee for his life, all the while desperately communicating with the surrounding forest:

Save me!

Protect me!

Stop them!

Trip them up!

These humans—these humans are the enemies of nature!

All along his path, snakes and insects scurried, night birds flew off in alarm, and one by one, towering trees crashed down. Just when he was about to collapse from exhaustion, a wild boar suddenly burst out from the side, ducking its head under Sisoyin and lifting him onto its back without warning, thundering down the mountainside.

Sisoyin lay on the boar’s back, panting heavily, trying to press his body as low as possible, wrapping himself tightly in his cloak. Sure enough, the boar grunted and charged into a dense thicket.

The boar’s back, covered in pine resin, sand, and stiff bristles, was far from comfortable to lie on. The shrubs did their best to lift their branches, but still, hard branches lashed across his back, leaving burning welts.

But this was the best his friends could do to protect him. Sisoyin steadied his breathing, trying to recover a bit of strength, and listened intently to the sounds behind him:

“@#$%!”

Behind him, the human swordsman cursed loudly, clearly blocked by the thicket. The sound of sword wind slicing through the air was followed by angry curses as he began to chop through the dense underbrush.

Clearly, the thicket was doing its best to attack them. Leaves fluttered, thorns shot out, foul odors sprayed, and small insects swarmed their faces…

Everything, everything was to buy him just a little more time.

Fighting back tears, Sisoyin pulled out a large clump of green mud from his pack and slapped it onto his leg and arm. A cool sensation spread through him, immediately easing the pain in his leg, though his arm still burned.

What was that red light?

What was it!

Ah, why didn’t he train harder in combat and magic while on Elf Island!

Why, after guarding this forest for so many years, did he always feel like there was plenty of time, spending too much time growing flowers, cultivating herbs, brewing elf wine, and communicating with the surrounding animals…

If only he could defeat that human warrior!

If only he were just a little stronger!

A little stronger!

Another sword wind swept past. Suddenly, Sisoyin was violently thrown off and rolled down the slope.

The wild boar, coated in pine resin and covered in sand, turned around and charged straight at the pursuing enemies.

There was a curse, the sound of a longsword slicing through the night air. The smell of blood quickly filled the air, carried to Sisoyin’s nose by the rainforest’s night wind.

Biting his lip hard, Sisoyin held back a large tear, forcing himself to get up and continue running. Run, run!

Run until your legs break, run until your lungs burst, run until your blood runs dry, just keep running!

The farther he ran, the greater his chance of escaping! The farther he ran, the safer that native village would be!

If he could run 10 more miles, there would be a magical crocodile ahead that might team up with him against the enemy; if he could run 20 more miles, there was a pair of Fire Feather Cranes living there, and even if they were unwilling to fight, maybe they’d be willing to carry him away from danger?

Even though he’d never beaten that male crane…

He kept running, running until he tripped and rolled down a slope, got up, and kept running; running until he could barely see, his strength drained, then gritting his teeth, he surged forward again…

“Stop!”

“You can’t escape!”

“It’s an elf! Hahaha, it’s actually a legendary elf!”

“Look at those pointed ears! Boss, catch him alive! I’ve never tasted elf before!”

“You idiot! How can we let you ruin him? If he’s really an elf, we should offer him to someone important! If the Governor, or even His Majesty the King, gets their hands on this elf, and they’re pleased, we won’t have to suffer here delivering goods anymore!”

“But he’s a male!”

“Are you an idiot?! When did the wine on Tulip Street sell cheaper than the wine on Rose Street?!”

Laughter, shouts, all sorts of obscene and vile language poured over from behind. Sisoyin silently fumbled with his belt, gripping the dagger hidden beneath his cloak—

If, if he really couldn’t escape, he would never allow himself to fall into their hands!

It would be nothing more than returning to nature...

His footsteps grew heavier, the mocking voices behind him drew closer. Suddenly, the sound of a bowstring echoed, and before Sisoyin could dodge, his left shoulder felt a sudden chill. It wasn’t followed by a burning pain but a heavy numbness.

Sisoyin was knocked to the ground by the force of the arrow. His heart turned cold as ice, and he no longer struggled to get up. Instead, he resolutely drew his dagger. Closing his eyes, his pointed ears trembled slightly as he whispered softly:

“Mother…”

“Ah—”

A scream pierced the air.

Sisoyin’s arm trembled. The dagger wavered, failing to pierce straight into his heart, instead cutting a gash on his side. He didn’t even have time to cast a healing spell, his left arm supporting him as he desperately tried to look back:

He couldn’t see anything.

Couldn’t see anything at all. Everywhere he looked, there was darkness, blocking all his vision.

Tentatively, Sisoyin cast a Light spell to illuminate his surroundings, only to find a snow-white bowl, inverted over the ground, trapping him inside…

Trapped inside…

Trapped inside…

He reached out to touch it, feeling the chill, ten times colder than an ordinary Ice Wall. Just before he pressed his hand against it, a sudden realization flashed through his mind, and he quickly withdrew his hand:

Luckily, he pulled back just in time; otherwise, he would have been frozen to the Ice Wall!

He slowly pulled out half a bag of green mud and carefully applied it to his wounds. Tilting his face, he pressed his long, pointed ear against the ground, straining to listen:

What was happening outside?

Had someone come to rescue him? Or had a displeased magical beast attacked

them?

Was he safe now?

Outside the Ice Wall, the knights from the Governor's Mansion of Peril raised their heads, only to see half the sky darkened. Even in the dead of night, they could clearly see the enormous creature hovering above them—

Its body alone was as large and tall as a house; its outstretched wings, each at least five or six houses wide; with just a slight flap, the gust of wind was so strong that they could barely stand!

“What is that?!”

“Is it a super-grade magical beast?”

“C-Colonel… should we run?”

“Run?!” The giant bird suddenly lowered its head. Its beak opened, revealing a hole as wide as a bowl. From within the hole, a face appeared, with a pair of black eyes burning with fury:

“Do you think you can escape?!”

“Crack!”

A bright flash of lightning shot out from the bird's beak, streaking through the air. There was no time to react before it struck the Colonel.

The Colonel fell without a sound. The lightning then split into six branches, leaping to the knights that had followed him, marking each one of them.

“Chain Lightning?!”

The farthest knight, who had narrowly escaped, turned pale and immediately fled. The Colonel was a level 13 knight, yet he had been struck down by a single Chain Lightning—

Who was this person?

Who was it?!
