Yin Tao's brother, Yin Hao, forced her to attend their father's birthday party, but she used his credit card to buy a gift. The next day, Yin Tao began her internship at the autopsy lab under her master, Su Ning. Despite Su Ning's low expectations, Yin Tao proved her competence by skillfully handling a difficult case involving a highly decomposed body, even impressing her fellow forensic doctor, Zhang Yuan.

A newbie was on the scene.

Yin Tao was intently examining the corpse when she heard Zhang Yuan speak. A smile touched her lips as she replied, “It’s perfectly fine, Dr. Zhang.”

Yin Tao then took a quick look at Su Ning, noticing he kept his head bowed, not daring to bend his body too much. “Master, your back is acting up again, isn’t it? Allow me to handle the stomach dissection.”

Upon hearing Yin Tao’s offer, Su Ning regarded her with surprise. Only a few days prior, this young woman had been vocal about her displeasure at being assigned to the forensics department. Now, her approach to the task was demonstrably positive and serious. Observing Yin Tao's bright, wide eyes set against her round face, Su Ning came to understand that appearances could indeed be deceiving.

He passed the instrument he was holding to Yin Tao, anticipating her subsequent performance.

This Yin Tao was not the original inhabitant of this body; she possessed considerable prior work experience. Su Ning and Zhang Yuan were both taken aback by Yin Tao’s swiftness and dexterity. The stomach, notoriously a challenging organ to work with, presented no issue for the young woman before them, who proceeded with the procedure calmly, skillfully, and without error.

“Hey, Su Ning, are you quite certain this is your disciple’s first day as an intern? Is she truly a novice?” Zhang Yuan discreetly pulled Su Ning aside, inquiring in a low voice. Despite his many years of experience, he had never encountered a beginner with such an innate talent for forensic work.

“It is indeed her first day, and she didn't initially seem eager to become a forensic doctor,” Su Ning replied, a touch of bewilderment in his voice as he observed the focused Yin Tao.

“With abilities like these, it would be a true shame if she didn’t pursue forensics…” Zhang Yuan let out a sigh, his gaze fixed on Yin Tao. “Old Su, it’s not my intention to lecture you, but this one is a promising sprout. You must take full advantage and cultivate her talents.”

Su Ning found himself developing a fresh perspective on Yin Tao. This young woman was clearly not as fragile as her appearance suggested. As long as she possessed a genuine desire to learn, he was fully committed to imparting his knowledge.

“Master, there were no traces of food residue within the deceased’s stomach. However, there was a significant amount of bile present in the duodenum and gallbladder, indicating the deceased must have been on an empty stomach for a considerable duration prior to death,” Yin Tao stated after meticulously examining the stomach, her careful gaze then shifting to the increasingly difficult-to-identify skin tissues.

“Beyond the distinct ligature marks from the binding of a heavy object, the deceased’s wrists showed severe decomposition. It is highly probable that the wrists were bound by the murderer while the deceased was still alive,” Yin Tao, who otherwise presented as a typical student-aged girl, adopted a noticeably more mature demeanor when confronting the remains.

“There are no discernible external wounds. No indications of a struggle are apparent, nor are there any injuries consistent with water impact. This strongly suggests the body was discovered in close proximity to its abandonment site,” observed Zhang Yuan, who, along with Su Ning, was considerably impressed by Yin Tao’s professional and serious approach.

“Excellent work! It’s quite commendable to achieve this level as an intern,” Zhang Yuan praised Yin Tao liberally. He couldn't help but feel a tinge of envy that Su Ning had acquired such an intelligent disciple. “Xiaotao, if your master doesn't treat you well, feel free to come to me. My credentials are in no way inferior to your master’s!”

“Zhang Yuan, have you no shame? If you’re looking to mentor an intern, why don't you apply for one yourself!” Although Su Ning didn't directly laud Yin Tao, she could clearly perceive a significant improvement in his demeanor compared to when she first arrived.

“Yin Tao, the police are currently reviewing the surveillance footage near the river. I will proceed with a DNA comparison later. You should head back and rest for now. Await my update.”

Yin Tao happily bid farewell to Su Ning and Zhang Yuan. A persistent smile remained on her lips as she returned to the police station. It seemed her newfound professionalism had successfully shifted Su Ning’s initial impression of her.

“Xiaotao!” Bai Luo noticed Yin Tao’s beaming expression and inquired, “What’s going on? Did something good happen?”

“Oh, nothing much. I simply went to dissect a corpse,” Yin Tao responded nonchalantly.

“Hey, are you alright? What’s there to be happy about dissecting a corpse?” Bai Luo looked at Yin Tao, a hint of concern in her voice. She then lowered her tone, saying, “Did you hear about the highly decomposed body recovered from the new city district this morning? I was at the scene. The sight… sigh…” Bai Luo furrowed her brow, the grim images clearly resurfacing in her memory.

“Oh, I am aware,” Yin Tao replied calmly. Bai Luo’s eyes, however, gradually widened.

“No way?! That’s the very corpse you went to dissect?”

“I believe so. It was recovered from the new city district. Male, approximately forty years of age,” Yin Tao stated, maintaining her composure.

Bai Luo, nonetheless, shook her head as if she had encountered something monstrous. “Truly, those capable of being forensic doctors are certainly not ordinary individuals. I am thoroughly impressed!”

“What are you two discussing? Bai Luo!” Before Bai Luo could finish her sentence, a lanky young man with a buzz cut placed a hand on her shoulder, asking with a smile.

“Ah, Xia Jin.” Bai Luo turned to the newcomer and introduced him to Yin Tao. “Xiaotao, this is Xia Jin. He’s also a newbie under the tutelage of my master, Captain Chen.”

A warm greeting was exchanged as Yin Tao extended her hand to Xia Jin, her demeanor especially amiable towards individuals absent from the novel's original narrative.

“Hello, are you also placed in our division two?” Xia Jin inquired. His complexion bore a darker hue, yet his personality radiated cheerfulness and a gregarious spirit.

“I am an intern forensic doctor. It seems we shall have the opportunity to collaborate in the days ahead,” Yin Tao replied, her voice gentle and her eyes sparkling with a smile.
