Sister Ling reveals that she was Professor Feng's student and had feelings for him. She also mentions that Feng Jing's father was married at the time and that an accident involving Feng Jing's mother affected his father. Sister Ling and Feng Jing discuss how to find the USB drive, and Liu Jing expresses her lack of close family ties.

“We must investigate this possibility.” Feng Jing suddenly recalled Liang Yi, who had also been searching for the USB drive. He then turned to Sister Ling and Liu Jing, inquiring, “Do you happen to know Liang Yi?”

Liu Jing gave a nod, but Sister Ling’s response was not immediate.

“Mr. Liang is a genuinely good person; he has assisted me on numerous occasions before,” Liu Jing stated. Liu Jing proceeded to recount to Feng Jing how Liang Yi had come to her aid. It wasn't just that Liang Yi had protected her from bullying; he had also provided her with a substantial sum of money when she was being pursued by her father’s creditors. Liu Jing was not someone who forgot favors; she always held Liang Yi’s past kindness in high regard.

“Sister Ling, Mr. Liang also rescued me once. He’s quite different from many individuals in the black market. Do you know him?” Yin Tao noticed Sister Ling’s desire to speak, coupled with her hesitation, and surmised that she likely knew Liang Yi as well.

“He operates within the black market, much like myself, though our dealings are considerably more legitimate than Yan Kai’s. While Liang Yi’s methods can be somewhat severe, he is not one to carelessly end a person’s life,” Sister Ling explained.

Feng Jing found Sister Ling’s assessment credible. Despite Liang Yi’s potentially unsavory appearance, he presented a stark contrast to the criminals Feng Jing typically encountered.

“We will address this issue with the utmost urgency. You must remain vigilant while you are here.” Feng Jing understood the critical nature of their current predicament. The black market had already scoured nearly all the locust trees in City A, meaning it was only a matter of time before they discovered the specific locust tree where the USB drive was concealed.

As Feng Jing, Yin Tao, and Jiang Xing departed Sister Ling’s basement, their expressions were grim.

“Young Master Jiang, can we truly place our trust in you?” Yin Tao directed this probing question towards the taciturn Jiang Xing.

“Naturally. Do you truly perceive me as the sort of individual who trifles with human lives callously?” Despite Jiang Xing’s typically flippant demeanor, he grasped the gravity of the situation. Disclosing any information regarding this matter would yield him no advantage whatsoever. In fact, it could potentially endanger Sister Ling and Liu Jing. Therefore, he saw no reason to betray their trust.

“Yes.”

Feng Jing’s curt affirmation ignited Jiang Xing’s temper. “You! Don’t presume I fear you simply because you hail from the Feng family. Let me be clear: were it not for your superior family background, Xiaotao would never have chosen you!”

“Oh?” Feng Jing’s smile suddenly appeared, unnerving Jiang Xing. “If I recall correctly, you have only recently begun to manage the Jiang family’s affairs. Perhaps you should consult your father regarding the repercussions of antagonizing the Feng family?”

“Just you wait and see. We may share a common objective at this moment, but once this matter is resolved, we shall resume our positions as adversaries!” As Jiang Xing moved to enter his car, Yin Tao intercepted him.

“Xiaotao, you can clearly see how unreasonable this person is, can’t you?”

“Young Master Jiang, I must strongly advise you against revealing any details of today’s events to anyone. Brother Feng and I will manage this situation appropriately.” Yin Tao glanced at Jiang Xing, who was on the verge of a furious outburst, and found herself regretting involving him.

“I will not cause you any trouble; do not worry. I simply do not have the time!” Jiang Xing declared, entering his car with evident anger. He gazed at Yin Tao and Feng Jing as if a beloved toy had been unfairly taken away.

“Brother Feng, is he truly dependable?” Yin Tao watched as Jiang Xing’s car gradually receded into the distance, a sense of unease settling upon her. If a potion existed that could induce temporary amnesia, Yin Tao mused, she would not hesitate to douse Jiang Xing with a full bucket of it.

“We have no alternative but to proceed. Our only recourse is to act with all possible haste.” Feng Jing believed Sister Ling to be an astute individual. Had Jiang Xing been genuinely untrustworthy, Sister Ling would likely not have lowered her guard around him so readily.

“In that case, should we seek out Liang Yi first, or perhaps visit Shanshan at the Children’s Home?”

Yin Tao suspected that only these two individuals could possibly have any connection to the USB drive. Liang Yi, being an adult, might be easier to converse with, yet he might be unwilling to cooperate. Xu Shan, on the other hand, would likely cooperate, but she was still a child, and might not possess the complete picture.

“Let us find a place to rest for the night. Are you unaware of the current hour?” Feng Jing smiled, observing Yin Tao’s intensely serious expression. He noted how completely she immersed herself whenever she was engrossed in a case.

As it was already quite late, Feng Jing secured accommodation at a nearby hotel, booking two standard rooms. Upon his return to his own room and just as he was preparing to shower and relax, a knock sounded at his door.

“Brother Feng, have you retired for the night?” Yin Tao inquired softly, leaning slightly against the door. Having just heard a noise from within the room, she had consequently decided to knock.

“What is it?” Feng Jing asked, toweling his damp hair. Upon seeing Yin Tao standing at his door, he gestured for her to enter.

“Brother Feng, I apologize for disturbing you.”

Yin Tao couldn't quite figure out where to direct her gaze. Feng Jing possessed a remarkable physique, and even clad in a bathrobe, the contours of his body were strikingly evident.
