Meanwhile, just beyond the City Lord’s private chambers.
Captain Shan, looking utterly drained, was seeing off the final visitor from the manor.
As he turned to head back inside, several of his subordinates eagerly approached, their faces beaming.
"Captain! You must be ready for a drink after tonight!" a burly guard chuckled, slapping him on the shoulder. "Come on, let's go get some ale. The night’s still young, and we just wrapped up a long shift. There’s a fine tavern nearby that serves that potent Spirit Wine you fancy."
Captain Shan let out a profound, weary sigh upon hearing this, his hand instinctively going to his temples.
"We cannot depart just yet," he stated with conviction. "The City Lord is currently engaged in a private consultation with Alchemist Li. It would be quite improper for all of us to vanish before our guest departs. You know how the City Lord values proper etiquette."
The burly subordinate responded by scratching his head, a look of disappointment softening his grin.
"But Captain... they've been in there for ages. Perhaps the meeting is progressing exceptionally well? Or... maybe they are delving into some advanced alchemy techniques?"
Another guard chimed in with a sly smirk. "Discussing high-level alchemy at this hour? Alone together in a private room? Hehe... sure, that's it. Just discussing alchemy."
Captain Shan shot him a piercing, admonitory glare.
"Mind your tongue. Whatever they are doing is absolutely none of our concern. Besides, you all know the City Lord has absolutely no interest in men… especially one as feeble as him. We remain on duty until Alchemist Li exits or the City Lord summons us."
The subordinates exchanged knowing glances but didn't dare to push the matter further.
At that precise moment, a guard sprinted towards them, his expression one of heightened urgency.
"Captain Shan! A missive has arrived from the Sect for the City Lord!"
Captain Shan accepted the sealed missive from the messenger, his brow knitting together in a deep frown as he closely examined the official Sect insignia imprinted upon it.
"It appears the Sect has finally deigned to respond," he murmured thoughtfully. "Excellent work. Continue securing the perimeter. I will deliver this to the City Lord personally."
"Aye, Captain!"
With his orders given, Captain Shan moved with swift purpose through the moonlit courtyard, the sealed letter held firmly within his grasp.
Yet, for reasons unknown, the playful insinuations from his subordinate earlier kept echoing in the back of his mind.
He shook his head resolutely.
'Impossible... The City Lord is an exceptional woman. One who is stoic and wholly dedicated to the Dao. There's no conceivable way she would become entangled with that lecherous, perverted alchemist.'
Captain Shan was already well aware of the true nature of Li Feng.
...After all, they shared certain commonalities, which only solidified his certainty that the City Lord would undoubtedly hold such a persona in utter contempt.
'They must be discussing the plague or some critical alchemy methodology. That's the sole rational explanation for such an extended meeting.'
This conviction solidifying his belief, Captain Shan arrived at the entrance to the inner private residence.
The two elite guards standing watch there immediately offered respectful bows.
"Captain!"
"Is the City Lord still inside with Alchemist Li?" Captain Shan inquired.
"Yes, sir. They have not emerged since entering."
Captain Shan nodded and proceeded inside.
He ascended the stairs until he reached the doorway of the guest room.
"City Lord!" he called out with utmost respect. "This subordinate bears an urgent dispatch from the Sect. It carries the Sect Leader's personal sigil. Shall I present it?"
Silence was the only response.
At this, Captain Shan's expression grew increasingly fraught with unease.
'No way... surely not?'
He muttered to himself, his pulse quickening with each passing second.
The very scenario his subordinate had jokingly alluded to earlier now vividly replayed in his mind – the proud City Lord and that utterly shameless Alchemist Li…
Such a lofty, aloof woman whom every single person here could only gaze upon with admiration from afar…
He violently shook his head.
'Preposterous. The City Lord would never...'
Nevertheless, the unnerving, prolonged silence intensified his anxiety.
He drew closer to the door and raised his voice once more.
"City Lord! Kindly pardon this subordinate’s intrusion, but the matter is of extreme urgency!"
Captain Shan couldn't quite articulate why, but his heart was now pounding with an inexplicable, rapid rhythm.
Just as he prepared to forcefully breach the door—
The door swung open by itself.
Captain Shan froze the instant the door creaked open.
For there stood Lan Suyao before him, appearing precisely as she always did… cold, graceful, and possessing an air of undeniable dignity.
Her elegant robes were immaculately arranged, her hair precisely secured, and her countenance still retained its characteristic frosty demeanor.
Not a single sign of disarray was present on her person.
"City Lord..." Captain Shan bowed his head deeply.
A profound sense of relief flooded his features, though... a subtle undercurrent of disappointment rippled through his heart for reasons he couldn't quite grasp.
"Pray forgive this subordinate for disturbing your repose. An urgent missive has arrived from the Sect Leader."
He presented the sealed envelope with both hands.
Lan Suyao's expression remained utterly impassive as she accepted the letter.
"...I understand," she responded coolly, her voice unwavering and as frigid as ever. "You may depart. I shall review it without delay."Captain Shan lingered for a moment, then bowed once more before turning to leave.
"Yes, City Lord."
As he took a single step away, he paused, inquiring with a hint of hesitation,
"City Lord... is Alchemist Li still within? Do you require my assistance to escort him out?"
Lan Suyao remained at the threshold with impeccable poise.
Her tone remained crisp and commanding.
"Alchemist Li is presently engaged in refining certain pills I requested to test for the plague. There is no necessity for you to await him this evening. I shall personally oversee the process."
Captain Shan's eyes widened slightly in surprise.
Perceiving no issues, he bowed again.
"Understood, City Lord. This subordinate shall not impose further. Should any urgent matter arise, do not hesitate to summon me."
Lan Suyao offered a brief, dismissive nod.
"You are dismissed."
The instant Captain Shan turned and proceeded down the corridor, the door behind him softly clicked shut.

The moment the door sealed.
Lan Suyao pivoted composedly and strolled back towards the inner chambers.
Her gait was measured and elegant, each movement exuding the City Lord's customary grace.
However, the instant she pushed open the door to the secluded bedroom...
A palpable wave of heat, thick and lewd, assaulted her senses.
"Haa...! Haaah...! Ahh—!!"
Within, a scene of utter degradation unfolded.
A stunningly beautiful woman, completely undressed, was observed with her physique arched over a robust wooden table, her upper body pressed flat against its surface.
Her ample bosom was compressed outward, her nipples abrading harshly against the wood with each vigorous thrust.
Her long, shapely legs were parted wide, her toes just grazing the floor as her alluring form swayed helplessly with every rough in-and-out motion.
From behind, Li Feng gazed with a lecherous, triumphant smirk contorting his features.
One hand clutched a thick lock of her lustrous dark hair like reins, while the other periodically delivered a firm, resounding slap to her ample, quivering posterior.
His thick, slick member plunged relentlessly into her yielding depths, expelling copious amounts of thick white fluid messily with every profound penetration.
Abruptly, Li Feng, lost in the intense ecstasy of her primal, mortal flesh, gave a sharp tug on her silky black tresses.
"Haah...!
The woman's head was jerked back violently, revealing her exquisite, flushed face etched with tears.
...And it was Lan Suyao.
